The Euros and Copa America have officially come to an end and in its place, major European leagues across the continent are set to get underway shortly. However, there are a couple of noteworthy top tiers that are already deep into their campaign already – including Major League Soccer. All clubs are pushing for a place in the playoffs and today, we’ll be previewing a rare David vs Goliath battle as new boys Inter Miami come face to face with high-flyers New England Revolution in an intriguing battle.
Inter Miami
When David Beckham revealed that he’d be entering the MLS scene once again with an entirely new franchise, the expectations were high. Alas, between the hurdles they’ve had to overcome and their start to the current campaign, it’s not exactly surprising to see that Phil Neville is in the hot seat. Inter are rooted to the bottom of the conference table and even though that could benefit them in the long run, it doesn’t spare their blushes for the next few months.
Team News
Jones has a knee injury that is set to keep him out of action for this game, Gregore is out through suspension and Leerdam is currently away on international duty.
New England Revolution
After years of lying dormant it’s finally time for the New England Revolution to explode into life and become top contenders in the MLS – or, at least, that’s what appears to be happening this season. It’s true that the Western Conference seems to be the more accomplished out of the two during this campaign but we think the playoffs, and the MLS Cup, could be right there for the taking – and the Revolution are unpredictable enough to make a serious run.
Team News
Caicedo is currently continuing his comeback from an injury with the other two absences between Turner who is away with the USA for the Gold Cup and Buchanan who has been called up for Canada.
Factors to Consider
- New England are 1st in the Eastern Conference whereas Miami are 14th.
- Miami have lost their last six games.
- New England have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Miami have scored one goal and conceded 10 in their last six games.
- New England have scored 12 goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.
Conclusion
While expecting the unexpected is always fun in a sport like this and a league like the MLS, New England should have far too much for Miami here. They just seem to be far more dominant across all sectors of the pitch and while they don’t exactly possess the best defensive track record, Miami don’t have anyone that we believe could trouble them. We’re going for a slightly underwhelming 1-0 win for the conference leaders this evening, in a result that probably isn’t going to do a whole lot to boost the fortunes of either side in the long run.
