While the domestic season may be over across Europe, there’s still a lot of football left to be played in the United States as this year’s Major League Soccer campaign rolls on. A parade of clubs across both conferences are hoping that they can make it to the post-season and today, we’re going to take a look at a clash between two clubs in different spots: Inter Miami and Philadelphia Union.
Inter Miami
Throughout their brief time of existence, Inter Miami have really just been focusing on finding their feet. David Beckham has a clear vision for where he wants the club to go over the course of the next few decades and given the market they possess, we’d say that’s a reasonable target. The play-offs, though, this time around, may serve as a step too far as they continue to build.
Team News
Robbie Robinson is out through injury but aside from that, Inter appear to have a full bill of health for the visit of Philly.
Philadelphia Union
They’ve been runners-up in the US Open Cup three times and they won the Supporters’ Shield back in 2020, but this season really does feel like the Union are genuine MLS Cup contenders. They’re somewhat flying under the radar in comparison to their peers and based on how long it’s taken for them to become contenders, we’d argue that’s the kind of approach they need.
Team News
The visitors have no major injury concerns and should have a full roster to choose from as they venture to Florida.
Factors to Consider
- Philadelphia are 2nd in the Eastern Conference whereas Miami are 10th.
- Miami have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Philadelphia have won two, drawn three and lost one of their last six games.
- Miami have scored seven goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Philadelphia have scored 11 goals and conceded four in their last six games.
Conclusion
The issue for Miami here is that while they tend to be more compact and organised now in comparison to a year ago, we just don’t think it’s going to matter against a side that appears to be better than them in just about every department. We’re going to put our money behind the Union pushing them back early doors, getting a goal, and adding to their total in the second half for a fairly comprehensive 2-0 win.
