Inter Milan and Fiorentina will face each other in Serie A this weekend in what promises to be a hugely exciting and intriguing affair. The match is slated to kick off at 7:45pm UK time on Saturday at San Siro.

Inter Milan

The match against Fiorentina will be Inter’s first of the 2020-21 Serie A campaign. The Nerazzurri finished second in the league table last season with 82 points from 38 matches, a point behind champion Juventus. However, that gap was due to the Bianconeri taking their foot off the pedal after wrapping up yet another Serie A title. Antonio Conte is still the the head coach of the Milan club, who will determined to bring Juventus’s stranglehold of the Scudetto to an end this season.

Inter have been quite busy in the summer transfer window and have made quite a few signings. Among the major recruiments that the former European champions have made are full-back Achraf Hakimi, midfielder Nicole Barella, defender Aleksandar Kolarov and midfielder Arturo Vidal, while Alexis Sanchez has made his loan move to San Siro from Manchester United permanent. With players such as Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij, Andrea Ranocchia, Ashley Young, Romelu Lukaku, and Lautaro Martinez still at the club, Inter have a very strong team and will be determined to beat Juventus to the title this season.

Team news

De Vrij is suspended for Inter, while midfielder Matías Vecino has a knee injury and will not play. Vidal could be deployed in midfield to play alongside Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella.

Fiorentina

Fiorentina kicked off their 2020-21 Serie A campaign on a positive note when they got the better of Torino at home last weekend. Gaetano Castrovilli’s goal in the 78th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides at Stadio Artemio Franchi. The Viola are not going to challenge for the Scudetto, but Giuseppe Iachini’s side will be aiming for the European places, having finished as low as 10th in the league table last season.

The Florence outfit have been quite active in the summer transfer window and have made a number of additions to their squad. Alfred Duncan, Christian Kouame, Pol Lirola, Borja Valero and Giacomo Bonaventura have joined Fiorentina, while Jordan Veretout and Giovanni Simeone are among the clubs who have left.

Team news

Pezzella and Erick Pulga are doubtful for the match against Inter with ankle and illness respectively, which means that Federico Ceccherini could slot into defence again.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Inter scored more goals than Juventus in Serie A last season.
Inter had the best defence in the league last season.
Fiorentina scored just 51 goals in the league last season.
Fiorentina conceded 48 goals in the league last season.
Inter won 5-0 against Lugano and 7-0 against Pisa in pre-season friendlies.

Conclusion

Inter have one of the strongest squads in Italy, and although Fiorentina will not be easy pushovers, it is hard to see Conte’s side concede a goal or lose on Saturday evening.

Prediction: Inter Milan to win 2-0

Best Odds: 7/1
