The title race in Serie A is heating up in a big way, but as it turns out, the same can also be said for the battle to win this season’s Coppa Italia. There are four teams remaining in the competition and while the Napoli vs Atalanta tie is bound to be incredibly competitive, we’re going to be focusing on the other semi-final. Inter Milan and Juventus are both locked in a war across all domestic competitions and that trend will continue when they meet at the San Siro for the first leg on Tuesday night.
Inter Milan
They may have stumbled here and there in recent weeks but there is no way of denying Inter Milan’s credentials as AC Milan’s closest title rivals right now. Antonio Conte is a complicated manager at the best of times but he appears to be getting what he needs out of this squad, and he’s doing so at just the right moment. If they can keep digging deep and finding big performances within themselves, there’s no reason to believe they can’t win some silverware between now and the end of the campaign.
Team News
Vecino and D’Ambrosio are both set to miss out for this one through injury, but perhaps more crucially, there are two suspensions that could harm Inter’s chances in a big way as Lukaku and Hakimi are absent.
Juventus
Even though they have a game in hand in Serie A, the reigning Champions of Italy are being made to pay for a slow start to the campaign. Juventus have long since been heralded as the kings of the division but they’re starting to lose their grip on the title with at least three or four other clubs being in with a serious shout of claiming the trophy. We all know it’s a marathon, not a sprint, but the Old Lady can’t afford too many more slip-ups.
Team News
Andrea Pirlo doesn’t exactly have a plethora of injury problems to concern himself with, but the big one is the continued absence of Paulo Dybala.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting just two weeks ago, Inter beat Juventus 2-0.
- Inter have won four and drawn two of their last six games.
- Juventus have won five and lost one of their last six games.
- Inter have scored 12 goals and conceded four in their last six games.
- Juventus have scored 13 goals and conceded four in their last six games.
Conclusion
This has all the potential in the world to be one of the most entertaining games of the season so far in Italian football, but with it being the first leg of two, we think next week’s tie is probably going to be the more competitive out of the two. We’re backing both clubs to really throw their weight behind getting an early goal, which we actually think they’ll both do, but the rest of the game will be quite trepidatious – ending in a subdued 1-1 draw.
