The Serie A season is slowly but surely coming to an end and while Inter Milan are the ones who have been able to rise up and claim the title of champions, that doesn’t mean the campaign as a whole is over. There’s still a lot left to be determined at either end of the table and that includes in the race for the Champions League spots, which takes us to our preview of what should be an exciting encounter between long time rivals Juventus and AC Milan.
Juventus
Juventus are no longer the top dogs in Italian football – or, at the very least, they aren’t this season. That alone is quite a shock to the system for those who have spent years watching them rule over Serie A with an iron fist. The popular opinion is that they’ll be able to bounce straight back into contention but even if that doesn’t happen, there’s a growing confidence in their ability to overcome Inter Milan’s current advantage as the years go on.
Team News
Rabiot, Morata and Chiesa are all set to make their respective returns to the starting XI this weekend with Juventus having no other injury concerns to worry about as Ronaldo prepares to lead the line once again for the hosts.
AC Milan
From leading title contenders to barely hanging onto fourth place, it’s safe to say AC Milan haven’t had a good time over the course of the last few months. There are many issues they’ve had to deal with but in the next few weeks, they just need to focus their attention on qualifying for the Champions League. If they can do that, the idea of attracting world class players to the club will become a lot more appealing and a whole lot more realistic.
Team News
Castillejo is out through suspension for the visitors but aside from that, they should have a fully fit squad to choose from in a game that could wind up defining their season.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in January, Juventus beat AC Milan 3-1.
- Juventus have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- AC Milan have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Juventus have scored 11 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- AC Milan have scored nine goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
Conclusion
While Milan have had something of a resurgence with three wins in their last five, Juventus are clearly eager to finish the season as strongly as they possibly can – which is why we’re backing them to run through Milan here. It isn’t going to be a bloodbath but instead, it could serve as a preview of what’s to come next season so long as Juve can make some smart decisions in the summer transfer window. Milan’s decline continues, whereas the Old Lady keeps on moving.
