The second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals have arrived with four clubs attempting to scrape their way through to the final. It’s one of the most prestigious trophies in all of Italian football and while the Inter Milan vs AC Milan derby is more appealing in the eyes of some, we’re going to be focusing our attention on what should prove to be a fascinating clash between Juventus and Fiorentina.

Juventus

Some Juventus fans would’ve been harbouring outside hopes of a title push up until the last few weeks but now, they really need to focus on defending their place in the top four. They’ll be desperate to maintain their status as a Champions League club and should therefore see it as a priority, but impressive Coppa Italia wins over Sampdoria and Sassuolo indicate they mean business in this competition.

Fiorentina

After spending a few years scrambling for any kind of successful campaign, Fiorentina will know just how important this tie is. Sure, they’re situated in the top six in Serie A, but picking up a scalp over Juve before taking on one of the Milan clubs would showcase real growth. They’ve already beaten Napoli and Atalanta, so why not try and go all the way?

Factors to Consider

  • Juventus beat Fiorentina 1-0 in the first leg thanks to a 91st minute Venuti own goal.
  • Juventus have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
  • Fiorentina have won four and drawn two of their last six games.
  • Juventus have scored eight goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
  • Fiorentina have scored eight goals and conceded four in their last six games.

Conclusion

Juventus just need to protect their lead at home and while Fiorentina have been in better form as of late, we expect to see Juve put in a really strong defensive display. It isn’t going to make for a great game with a lot of stop-start football but the hosts won’t care one bit about that. In the end, we’re predicting a 1-1 draw with Juve heading through to the final 2-1 on aggregate.
