The Euros and Copa America have officially come to an end and in its place, major European leagues across the continent are set to get underway shortly. However, there are a couple of noteworthy top tiers that are already deep into their campaign already – including Major League Soccer. All clubs are pushing for a place in the playoffs and today, we’ll be previewing a game between two legitimate contenders in LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake over in the west.
LA Galaxy
With five MLS Cup wins to their name it’s hardly surprising to see and understand why LA Galaxy are one of the most important franchises in the history of football in the United States. They always seem to be there or thereabouts towards the end of the campaign and right now, they’re positioned nicely in the hunt for the playoffs with many downplaying their chances – probably as a result of just how chaotic they have a tendency to be.
Team News
Hernandez, best known as Chicarito, is out of this one with an undisclosed injury for Galaxy, but outside of that they have no major injury concerns to worry about.
Real Salt Lake
Real Salt Lake have one MLS Cup triumph to their name stemming back to 2009 and ever since then, they’ve been a bit of a yo-yo club. Nobody can ever really figure out whether they’re coming or going but this season, we’d say they’re just happy to be in the playoff mix. There’s no guaranteed suggestion of them going all the way but if they can string a few impressive wins together then the sky is the limit, especially given how good they are at the back.
Team News
Ochoa is a fitness doubt for this one after missing out over the weekend as a result of a tight quad. Glad is out through suspension after being sent off in Salt Lake’s last game, with Brody being on the shelf through injury (due to surgery on a broken toe) alongside Farnsworth and Datkovic.
Factors to Consider
- LA Galaxy are 3rd in the Western Conference whereas Salt Lake are 7th.
- LA Galaxy have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Salt Lake have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
- LA Galaxy have scored 10 goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
- Salt Lake have scored 10 goals and conceded five in their last six games.
Conclusion
As much as we enjoy watching Galaxy play, mainly due to how unpredictable and fun they can be, their inconsistency is too much to overcome at this stage in the season. Salt Lake tend to keep things quite tight at the back and we’re expecting them to carry that forward into this game, which probably isn’t going to result in something particularly entertaining for mutual fans to watch. We’re going for a 0-0 draw, which neither franchise will be particularly happy with.
