Lazio and Monza will lock horns with each other in Serie A this coming weekend. The match between Marco Baroni’s side and Salvatore Bocchetti’s team will be held at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome and is scheduled to kick off at 2pm UK time on Sunday.

Lazio

Lazio are one of the biggest clubs in Italy and have a rich and successful history. I Biancazzurri finished seventh in the Serie A table last season and are aiming to end up in the top four and qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the 2025-26 campaign.

Marco Baroni’s side are sixth in the Serie A table at the moment with 39 points from 22 matches. Lazio are a point behind fourth-placed Juventus, who have played 23 games. While Le Aquile will not be able to challenge the likes of Napoli and Inter Milan for the Scudetto this season, they are certainly in a great position to end up in the top four.

Lazio will take on Cagliari away from home in Serie A on Monday evening before the match against Monza at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome this coming weekend. I Biancocelesti lost to Braga 1-0 away from home in the UEFA Europa League away from home last Thursday evening. It came after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Fiorentina in Rome in Serie A which followed a 3-1 victory over Real Sociedad at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome in the league.

Team News:

Lazio are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Monza. Christos Mandas will be in goal for the home team. Adam Marusic, Samuel Gigot, Alessio Romagnoli and Luca Pellegrini will be the four defenders. Mario Gila and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will be the two holding midfielders. Loum Tchaouna, Pedro and Tijjani Noslin will be the three attacking midfielders. Valentín Castellanos will lead the line for Lazio.

Monza

Monza are a modest club in Italy who are just happy to be part of the 20-team Italian top flight. I Biancorossi finished as high as 12th in the Serie A table last season, and one suspects that the Stadio Brianteo faithful will be more than happy with a similar position in the standings this time around.

Salvatore Bocchetti’s side, though, are in real danger of getting relegated to Serie B at the end of the season. Monza currently find themselves at the bottom of the Serie A table with 13 points from 23 matches, as many as eight points behind 17th-placed Empoli. It looks very unlikely that I Brianzoli will be able to retain their Italian top-flight status for next season.

Monza will head into the Serie A match against Lazio away from home at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome this coming weekend on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Hellas Verona at Stadio Brianteo in the league. It came after a 2-0 loss at the hands of Genoa on the road in Serie A which followed a 3-1  defeat to Bologna away from home in the league.

Team News:

Monza are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation against Lazio away from home at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Stefano Turati will be in goal for the visiting team and will have Stefan Lekovic, Armando Izzo and Tomas Palacios in front of him in defence. Pedro Pereira, Stefano Sensi, Kacper Urbanski and Georgios Kyriakopoulos will be the four midfielders. Patrick Ciurria and Samuele Vignato will be the two attacking midfielders. Dany Mota will lead the line for Monza.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Lazio have won 2 and lost 2 of their last 6 Serie A matches.
  • Lazio have scored 38 goals and conceded 30 goals in 22 Serie A matches this campaign.
  • Valentín Castellanos has scored 7 goals and given 1 assist in 19 Serie A matches for Lazio so far this campaign.
  • Monza have scored 20 goals and conceded 34 goals in 23 Serie A games so far this season.
  • Monza have won just 2 Serie A games all season.

Conclusion

Monza are in dire form at the moment and are very likely to get relegated to Serie B at the end of the season. Lazio are aiming for the top four, and playing at home will also give Le Aquile the advantage. It is very likely that Lazio will comfortably pick up all three points from this particular Serie A game.

Prediction: Lazio to win 3-0
