After a two-week break to digest their setback in Bologna, Lazio will look to get their top-four push back on track when they welcome Torino to the Stadio Olimpico on Monday.

The Biancocelesti were halted in their momentum before the international pause, while Torino picked up a crucial win over Empoli to strengthen their bid for a top-half finish. With both sides eager to build some consistency, a hard-fought contest is expected in the capital.

Lazio

Separated by just one spot in the Serie A table, Lazio faced Bologna at Stadio Dall’Ara in their most recent outing, as the fierce multi-team battle for European qualification continued. Already trailing by a goal at halftime, Marco Baroni’s side was completely overwhelmed after the break, conceding four more as the hosts cruised to a 5-0 victory and overtook them for fourth place.

Having already conceded six against Inter Milan late last year, the Biancocelesti have shown vulnerability on multiple occasions, raising concerns over their ability to secure a crucial top-four finish. Along with their heavy defeat in Emilia-Romagna, Lazio have drawn half of their last six league matches, managing only four wins since the start of the year.

With six teams separated by just six points, all vying for a Champions League berth, there is little room for further missteps with only nine games left to play. However, the capital club could also take an alternative route to UEFA’s premier competition, as they will soon face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League quarter-finals, just three wins away from lifting the trophy.

Before that, though, they must focus on domestic affairs, as Torino seek to improve a poor record at Stadio Olimpico: following their 2-0 home victory last season, Lazio have lost just twice in the teams’ last 20 league meetings in Rome.

Team News

Key striker Taty Castellanos remains sidelined and is expected to miss at least another two weeks, while center-back Patric has undergone surgery after months of dealing with a persistent ankle injury.

First-choice left-back Nuno Tavares could also be unavailable due to a muscular problem, while experienced midfielder Matias Vecino is suspended.

On a brighter note for Marco Baroni, captain Mattia Zaccagni has recovered from the injury that kept him out of Italy’s opening UEFA Nations League match and is set to start in support of either Boulaye Dia or Tijjani Noslin up front.

A key figure in the hosts’ midfield, France international Matteo Guendouzi has scored two of his three Serie A goals against Torino. Across all competitions this season, he has played the most minutes (3,216), completed the most successful passes in the final third (627), created the most open-play chances (44), and made the most final-third recoveries (16) among all Lazio players.

Torino

After suffering a 3-2 defeat in September’s reverse fixture, Torino have now lost their last three Serie A meetings with the Biancocelesti—and they could be beaten four times in a row for the first time ever.

However, they arrive in the capital with plenty of confidence, having won three of their last four matches leading up to the international break.

A second-half goal from Nikola Vlasic proved decisive in their latest victory over struggling Empoli, and the Granata have lost just once in 11 league games since the start of 2025—only undefeated Roma have a better record in that span. This impressive form has bolstered their push for a top-half finish, bringing Toro within two points of 10th-placed Udinese.

Paolo Vanoli’s men have been tough to beat on the road, losing only one of their last eight away fixtures, making them one of Serie A’s most resilient traveling teams. As a result, they will head to an expectant Olimpico without fear.

Team News

Torino remain without Alieu Njie, along with long-term absentees Perr Schuurs and Duvan Zapata, but Valentino Lazaro and Sebastian Walukiewicz are available again after missing the recent win over Empoli.

January recruits Eljif Elmas (three goals) and Cesare Casadei (one goal, one assist) have played a direct role in four of Torino’s last five away goals and are expected to retain their places in the lineup.

With Antonio Sanabria struggling for form this season and only just returning from international duty with Paraguay, eight-goal top scorer Che Adams is the favorite to lead the visitors’ attack.

Conclusion

Lazio are expected to win this clash, of course, but they won’t have it easy. Appearing to be running out of steam lately, the Biancocelesti should be able to scrape through, though.

Verdict: Home win

Best odds: 8/11
