As millions around the world continue to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, one slice of normality has remained the same – sport. We’re now in February and that means we’re going to be experiencing a whole lost of games coming at us thick and fast between now and May, which is especially true in the English Premier League. Today, we’re going to take a look at a fixture between two teams hoping to break into the top 10 – Leeds United and Crystal Palace.

Leeds

Leeds United fans will forever be grateful to Marcelo Bielsa for guiding the club back into the Premier League, but they’ll also be happy about the never say die style of football they continue to play. This is a team that isn’t going to win every game they play because it’s just not how their setup works, but what they will do is give fans both young and old an experience that they aren’t likely to forget anytime soon.

Team News

There are still a string of players that Leeds will be missing for the visit of Palace, including the following: Koch, Llorente, Rodrigo, Berardi, Poveda-Ocampo and Forshaw.

Crystal Palace

The Roy Hodgson era at Selhurst Park is probably going to be coming to an end at the conclusion of the current season, but that doesn’t mean he can’t go down swinging. Crystal Palace have a handful of really exciting attacking players at their disposal and if they can start to utilise them to their full potential, there’s a good chance they could surge into the top half. On the flip side, though, a few bad losses could put them right back in the relegation scrap.

Team News

It’d be a surprise to see Zaha feature after he came off early in the win over Newcastle during the week, and if he does miss out, he’ll be on the shelf with several other players for the Eagles. This includes Sakho, Wickham, Schlupp, Tomkins, McArthur, Ferguson and Hennessey.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in November, Leeds beat Crystal Palace 4-1.
  • Leeds have won two and lost four of their last six games.
  • Crystal Palace have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
  • Leeds have scored six goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.
  • Crystal Palace have scored five goals and conceded nine in their last six games.

Conclusion

We actually think these two clubs are going to produce quite an entertaining display, but that isn’t necessarily going to lead to many goals. Both teams know that a win could serve as a huge boost in the push to break into the top half and because of that, we think they’ll attempt to be a bit more resolute from a defensive standpoint. We’re going to predict Leeds and Palace will play out a 1-1 draw which, given the stakes, will probably be viewed as a good result for both.
