The Premier League came back into our lives last week with a plethora of fun match-ups to take in – and a whole lot of goals, too. All twenty sides in the top flight put their best foot forward and provided us with all kinds of talking points which, in truth, is all you can really ask for from a division like this one. We’ve got a whole new set of fixtures to get pumped up about in the next few days with one of the most intriguing taking place in Yorkshire when Leeds United square off against Everton.
Leeds
Leeds United will be desperate to avoid the dreaded second season syndrome in the Premier League, especially after they had such a positive top half finish last time out. Alas, something tells us Marcelo Bielsa is going to be prepared for every outcome in this campaign, and that he’s also going to stick to the style of play that got him to the dance. If that last point turns out to be the case, we’d all better buckle up for some drama between now and May.
Team News
Firpo is set to start after featuring against United whereas Llorente is a fitness doubt for the hosts. Elsewhere, England hero Phillips should be ready to play a role after missing out last weekend.
Everton
The idea of bringing in Rafa Benitez to replace the outgoing Carlo Ancelotti was never going to go down all too well but after one game, Toffees fans can’t be all too upset with the start he’s made. The former Liverpool boss helped to mastermind a nice comeback win over Southampton to get his side up and running, and while the summer transfer window needs to be taken advantage of by the club before it closes, they’ve still got a pretty decent squad to work with.
Team News
Rodriguez and Godfrey missed out against the Saints due to COVID-19 with nobody really knowing whether or not they’ll return here. Braithwaite is out injured with Gomes, Gbamin and Kean all being injury doubts for this away day.
Factors to Consider
- Leeds and Everton won one game apiece in their series last season (1-0 Leeds, 2-1 Everton).
- Leeds finished 9th in the Premier League last season with 59 points and +8 GD.
- Everton finished 10th in the Premier League last season with 59 points and -1 GD.
- Leeds lost their PL opener 5-1 against Manchester United last weekend.
- Everton won their PL opener 3-1 against Southampton last weekend.
Conclusion
One thing you can expect from a Leeds game in the Premier League is entertainment – and that’s what we’re putting our weight behind in terms of a prediction. They just never stop coming forward and as we saw in Everton’s opener, they’re definitely a team that can crumble with enough pressure put in front of them. We’re expecting a back and forth war of attrition with the end result being an enthralling 2-2 draw for neutrals to enjoy.
