The dust has settled on the European Super League debacle and now, we can all focus on the race to the finish this season as domestic football reaches a dramatic finale. The Premier League isn’t going to be immune to all of that chaos with plenty of teams still having a whole lot left to fight for, and even though the stakes aren’t as high as usual, we still think old enemies Leeds United and Manchester United will put on one hell of a show for us in Yorkshire this weekend.
Leeds
Marcelo Bielsa is a wizard of a man and after everyone doubted his team’s ability to hang around in the top flight, he’s clearly had a whole lot of fun proving them wrong. It’s not as if they’re immediately challenging for the title or perhaps even Europe, but what they are doing is picking up results – and they look good doing it. With a strong summer transfer window they could continue to cause some serious damage next season.
Team News
Forshaw is still out of cation whereas Cooper is suspended after his recent red card. In terms of official injury absences, Bielsa has confirmed that both Rodrigo and Raphinha will miss out in a big double whammy for the hosts.
Manchester United
There’s a good chance they aren’t going to win the league but between their second place spot and success in the Europa League, we’d say this has been a strong campaign for Manchester United. Sure, they’ll want to cap it off with some silverware, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is taking things one game at a time and that’s the right approach to have. The summer is going to be hectic and if they can go into it with some momentum, that’ll do them the world of good.
Team News
Rashford is a fitness doubt heading into this one with the same being true for Bailly, even though the latter is back in training. Martial and Jones are both still out injured but aside from that, Ole has plenty of options to choose from.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in December, Man United beat Leeds 6-2.
- Leeds have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- Man United have won five and lost one of their last six games.
- Leeds have scored seven goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Man United have scored 13 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
As crazy as their first game earlier on in the campaign was, we just can’t picture a scenario in which the same thing happens here. Leeds are good but United are operating at a really professional level right now and if anyone is going to be able to shut down their attacking options, it’s Ole’s men. This may not be the prettiest game to watch between two sides who are really just fighting for pride and bragging rights, but in the end, Manchester United should edge out a 1-0 win.
