The Premier League season is slowly but surely coming to an end this month with a parade of exciting fixtures left to be played. There’s so much left to fight for at both ends of the table from the relegation scrap to the top four race, with Tottenham Hotspur hoping to make some noise in the Champions League debate. In order to do so, though, they have to overcome an intriguing challenge in the form of the always-exciting Leeds United.
Leeds
A top half finish is within touching distance for Leeds United and while they may have tailed off over the course of the last few weeks, they’re still an incredibly fun team to watch in the Premier League. Marcelo Bielsa seems to be rectifying some of the lingering defensive problems they had from earlier on in the campaign and while that alone isn’t going to be enough to get them European football this season, a strong summer transfer window could set them up nicely for the next.
Team News
There are a handful of injury absentees for Leeds to contend with as they prepare for the visit of Spurs, as Phillips, Raphinha, Forshaw and Costa have all been ruled out.
Tottenham
Jose Mourinho out, Ryan Mason in. It seemed like a change that happened in the blink of an eye, probably due to the chaos that was ensuing with regards to the European Super League. Spurs fans have, for the most part, been a lot happier since Mason took charge, but positive results aren’t going to come overnight and there’s still an awful lot of work to be done. To start with, they need to win all four of their remaining fixtures if they want to stand a chance of finishing in the top four.
Team News
Lo Celso is a fitness doubt here after a nasty challenge from Fleck at the weekend. Elsewhere, Davies is still sidelined, with the rest of the squad seemingly being fit and ready to go.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in January, Tottenham beat Leeds 3-0.
- Leeds have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- Tottenham have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
- Leeds have scored seven goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Tottenham have scored 11 goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
Leeds are the kind of force that can’t, and shouldn’t, be taken lightly at any point during the season – regardless of what their fortunes may seem. We’re expecting them to come out swinging which will probably catch Spurs off guard, leading to a really fun encounter between two teams who are up there with the very best when they go for the throat. In the end we’re expecting a 1-1 draw that’ll probably be a lot more entertaining than the scoreline suggests – which should serve as music to the ears of neutral fans.
