The English Premier League returns once again this weekend with a full slate of fixtures to run alongside what many consider to be the main event – the League Cup final. Alas, in the EPL, there are still plenty of races being run as we edge towards the last few months of the campaign. Today, we’ll be previewing a battle between two of England’s greatest clubs: Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Leeds
The Marcelo Bielsa experiment led Leeds to some lofty heights last season but as many predicted, they’ve been somewhat found out this time around. They’re still hovering three places above the relegation zone but with just three points between themselves and Burnley, as well as a first team squad with no confidence in it whatsoever, there are some serious adjustments that need to be made in the weeks ahead.
Team News
Hjelde, Bamford, Phillips and Cooper have all been ruled out for this one, but Bielsa is hoping Llorente and Koch will both be fit enough to return.
Tottenham
When even Antonio Conte doesn’t know whether it’s worth carrying on, you way want to re-evaluate the state of your football club. Tottenham have been flying under ‘the radar’ for a long time and the reason is because they just aren’t very consistent anymore. Their North London neighbours are beginning to figure out the formula, and Spurs need to try and work it out too if they’re going to survive as a top six mainstay.
Team News
Tanganga and Skipp are both confirmed absences for the trip to Yorkshire with Reguilon and Moura both being tipped to feature.
Factors to Consider
- Leeds are 15th in the Premier League table whereas Tottenham are 8th.
- Leeds have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
- Tottenham have won two and lost four of their last six games.
- Leeds have scored eight goals and conceded 19 in their last six games.
- Tottenham have scored eight goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.
Conclusion
While Leeds are coming off the back of a battering and Tottenham are as vulnerable as they’ve ever been to a collapse, something tells us we’re going to get some Barclays magic in this game. The intense desire to make a statement will lead to a back and forth affair that shows off the attacking intent both clubs possess – ending in an entertaining 2-2 result for the neutral to enjoy.
