The Premier League is back in action once again this weekend with a host of entertaining fixtures, following on from a string of dramatic twists and turns in Europe during the week. There are a few clear races in which the favourite is becoming clear but in equal measure, there’s also a great deal of uncertainty still in the mix as we prepare to head into the month of March. Today, we’re going to take a look at Sunday’s intriguing game between Leicester City and Arsenal.

Leicester

Leicester City may not quite be at the point yet whereby they can be viewed as legitimate title contenders again, but after being knocked out of the Europa League during the week, they should be able to focus most of their attention on the Premier League now. They may have another dip in form as they did last season, but something tells us they’ll be able to sustain it a little bit better given how the league is shaping out.

Team News

Maddison is a fitness doubt for this one with Rodgers not sounding particularly optimistic about his chances of featuring. Elsewhere, Justin, Perez, Morgan, Praet and Fofana have all been ruled out through injury.

Arsenal

Arsenal are so often the laughing stock of the big six in the Premier League but if they’re not careful, the distinction of being part of the ‘big six’ may fall away sooner than we think. Mikel Arteta knows how perilous their situation is because even though they’ve got good signs within the squad heading into the future, not qualifying for Europe this season could really harm their ability to get business done in this summer’s transfer window.

Team News

Partey returned from injury against Benfica and has been tipped to make his way back into the starting XI here in place of Ceballos. The only other injury concern for the visitors right now is Holding, but aside from that, Arteta has the luxury of a pretty fit squad to choose from.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in October, Leicester beat Arsenal 1-0.
  • Leicester have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
  • Arsenal have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
  • Leicester have scored six goals and conceded four in their last six games.
  • Arsenal have scored nine goals and conceded nine in their last six games.

Conclusion

There’s a whole lot to like about the potential this game has from an entertainment standpoint, and we actually think the fact both teams were involved in European competition during the week is a good thing. These two should be able to put on a bit of a show but in the end, we think they’re going to cancel each other out. A 1-1 scoreline with plenty of chances thrown in there feels like a result that both teams would probably take heading into the King Power.
