The Premier League returns once again this weekend as we prepare to enter March’s slate of fixtures. There are just a few months remaining in the season and while it may seem obvious to see how things are going to go at both ends of the table, it’s rarely easy to tell until we get into the final eight-game stretch. With that in mind, it’s time to take a look at what should be a fascinating encounter between underachievers Leicester City and Leeds United.
Leicester
While this hasn’t exactly been the season many Leicester City fans had been hoping for, it’s worth remembering that the Foxes are still in possession of some high quality talent within their squad. Whether or not they make any use of that is up to them but with Brendan Rodgers potentially clinging onto his job, he needs to push for a top half PL finish at the very least.
Team News
Pereira and Maddison are both currently viewed as fitness doubts with the following players confirmed as being on the shelf: Evans, Bertrand, Justin, Fofana and Castagne.
Leeds
Marcelo Bielsa is out and Jesse Marsch is in, and boy oh boy does he have a big task on his hands between now and the end of the season. This team is full of exciting players but they’re running low on confidence and they’re also running dangerously close to the relegation zone. If they’re going to turn it around, they’ll need to go back to the animalistic side of their game that got them to the dance.
Team News
A few changes to the starting XI are expected for Marsch’s debut but the following players are out of action – Hjelde, Bamford, Cooper and Phillips.
Factors to Consider
- Leicester are 12th in the Premier League whereas Leeds are 16th.
- Leicester have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Leeds have drawn one and lost five of their last six games.
- Leicester have scored 12 goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
- Leeds have scored five goals and conceded 21 in their last six games.
Conclusion
Leeds need to find something within themselves that can help them bounce back and with a new manager in the dugout, we expect them to dig deep and secure a draw against Leicester. The Foxes are good enough to hold off Leeds for long portions of the game, especially if the crowd is on form, but we don’t think they’ll get the win – leading to a 1-1 draw in the East Midlands.
