The Premier League will take a back seat in the next few days, as the Carabao Cup re-enters the conversation. The competition is down to the quarter final stage, meaning we’re just a few steps away from learning who will contest the first final of the domestic season at Wembley. Two teams who will feel confident of reaching that point are Leicester City and Manchester City, and the two sides will be preparing to face one another for a spot in the final four tonight.
Leicester
Leicester have had a difficult start to the campaign and there’s no real way of getting around that, with the passing of their chairman serving as a huge blow to the club and the city. Alas, they still find themselves in a position where they could easily compete in a final at Wembley, as City will be by far their biggest obstacle. They’ve got impact players who are more than capable of defeating the champions, and it’s all about digging deep and treating this like the final.
Team News
Danny Simpson, Shinji Okazaki and Christian Fuchs have been tipped for starts with Leicester expecting to rest some big names, with Jamie Vardy being set for the bench.
Manchester City
This season has pretty much gone to plan so far this season, although City fans probably weren’t expecting Liverpool to push them quite as much as they have in the league. Nonetheless, the focus will be on getting the job done in the Carabao Cup, as they continue to try and achieve their goal of winning every competition they’re in this season. The problem here will be complacency, as City have a series of games coming up that you could argue are more important.
Team News
Benjamin Mendy and David Silva are two of the stars that are definitely out, but Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne could be in line for some game time after returning from respective injury problems.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.
- Leicester have won one, drawn three and lost two of their last six games.
- Man City have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- Man City lead 57-29 in the overall head to head standings with 29 draws.
- In their last meeting back in February, Man City beat Leicester 5-1
Conclusion
While the two teams are likely going to have very different line ups to what we’re used to seeing from them, it certainly feels like Leicester are going to go for the throat more so than the visitors in this one. We can see them pouring forward from the very first minute, causing something of a stalemate as they’ll be unable to break down the champions. Then, with around 15 minutes remaining, the reigning Champions of England will pop up with a late winner that sees them through to the final four of the competition.
