The Premier League is really starting to intensify now, and with just a few games remaining, teams are going to start to get desperate. There are expectations on the shoulders of all twenty teams in the top flight between now and the final whistle blowing on the final day, and that’s as exciting as it is terrifying. The game that we’re going to focus on today will be contested between Leicester City and Newcastle United, both of whom have aspirations – at different ends of the table, that is.
Leicester
People had their doubts about whether or not Brendan Rodgers could put in a successful stint with the Foxes, but after just a few weeks, it seems as if he’s already starting to prove people wrong. The former Celtic and Liverpool gaffer has this squad playing in a way that they haven’t done for a few years now. They’ve got their eyes set on 7th spot, because if they can finish there and Manchester City win the FA Cup next month, they’ll be playing Europa League football this summer.
Team News
Harry Maguire missed the Huddersfield win due to personal reasons but should return here, with the fitness of Jonny Evans being assessed prior to tomorrow’s game.
Newcastle
The big question on Tyneside is whether or not Rafa Benitez will end up staying at the club beyond the summer transfer window. It’s a query that has been floating around the minds of Magpies fans for months now, and in truth, all they can do is wait until the end of the season to see what he decides. Before then, though, they need to try and focus on remaining in the Premier League. It seems unlikely to suggest that they’ll drop down into the Championship, but you just never know in this division.
Team News
Florian Lejeune will be out of action for a while with a knee injury, with Longstaff also being ruled out and Diame being assessed.
Factors to Consider
- Leicester won the last meeting between the teams 2-0 back in September.
- Leicester have won five and lost one of their last six games.
- Newcastle have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Leicester have scored 14 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Newcastle have scored seven goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
Conclusion
We can see this one being a more competitive game than most neutrals would probably think, but in truth, Leicester City are just too good right now. They’re still riding the wave of Brendan Rodgers’ newly found momentum, and it feels like that’ll be the case right up until the end of the season. Newcastle have some weapons in their arsenal but we don’t think they’re going to pose a real threat to the Foxes, and whilst there may only be a goal in it, the home side will be the ones who take the three points.
