After a long and arduous 37-game journey, we’ve finally arrived at the final day of the Premier League season. The champions have been crowned and the three relegated clubs have been confirmed, but there are still plenty of questions to be asked about European qualification. Today, we’re going to preview a game that’ll play a pretty important role in that debate as Leicester City prepare to go head to head with Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester
When you win your first ever FA Cup it can be pretty difficult to focus on any other tasks or goals for the rest of the season, but for Leicester, they need to smarten up – because they need to give everything they’ve got in this game if they still want to qualify for the Champions League. It was always going to be a tall order after losing to Chelsea earlier in the week, but they’ve got to do everything they can to put that result to bed.
Team News
Justin, Barnes, Evans and Under are all expected to miss out for this one as Brendan Rodgers attempts to pull one last miracle out of his squad before this chaotic campaign comes to an end.
Tottenham
There are so many questions surrounding Tottenham Hotspur right now and many of them aren’t particularly positive or promising. Ryan Mason has done all that he can during his temporary stint in charge, but it’s pretty clear to see that the issues within the club go far deeper than that. They could finish as high as sixth or as low as ninth after the dust settles on Sunday, but either way, the summer transfer window is going to be absolutely huge.
Team News
Davies is out through injury with Aurier and Bale being fitness doubts, but there is one big factor here above all others – Harry Kane. The Englishman looks destined to leave the club this summer, meaning this is likely to be his final game for Spurs.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in December, Leicester beat Tottenham 2-0.
- Leicester have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Tottenham have won three and lost three of their last six games.
- Leicester have scored nine goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
- Tottenham have scored 10 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
We think this is going to be a pretty interesting battle and, as is so often the case on the final day, we expect there to be plenty of fireworks. Leicester no longer have their fate in their own hands and when you combine that with the FA Cup final win, we think that is going to play on their minds pretty heavily. On the flip side, Spurs will be desperate to avoid an embarrassing end to the season, which is why we’re backing them to come away with a 2-1 win.
