As we continue through the month of April there are still plenty of things left to be determined in English football’s top tier from the title picture to the relegation battle and beyond. Many fans feel as if they know the direction of travel with some choosing to look ahead to the Euros already, but before we get to all of that, there’s still a great deal of intrigue behind some of the remaining fixtures – and that includes Leicester City vs West Bromwich Albion.
Leicester
Leicester City have gone from favourites to win next season’s Premier League to general fan favourites in the space of just 48 hours, largely due to the rise and fall of the European Super League. But, instead of getting too caught up in all of that nonsense, the plan is for Leicester to march forward in pursuit of two things – a place in next season’s Champions League and an elusive piece of silverware courtesy of the FA Cup.
Team News
Barnes and Justin are both still long term absences for Leicester with Rodgers having to deal without them for quite some time. Elsewhere, Morgan and Pereira are set to face a late fitness test ahead of West Brom’s visit.
West Brom
West Bromwich Albion have easily been one of the worst teams in the Premier League this season and yet, with just a handful of games left to be played, there’s still a glimmer of hope that they can kick on and really push this relegation battle to the limit. The win over Chelsea seemed to inspire a renewed sense of confidence within their squad and while some will believe that was a fluke, the subsequent domination of Southampton proved that they’re in this for the long run.
Team News
The only confirmed injury concern as of this writing is Branislav Ivanovic who has been ruled out of the fixture. Elsewhere, the expectation is that the visitors could name an unchanged starting XI from the team that was able to handily dispatch of the Saints.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in September, Leicester beat West Brom 3-0.
- Leicester have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- West Brom have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Leicester have scored 13 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- West Brom have scored nine goals and conceded four in their last six games.
As bizarre as it may sound to some, we actually think the Baggies are going to be the ones who win this game. Leicester are clearly starting to feel the pressure of a top four surge for the second straight season, whereas Sam Allardyce is a master at pulling teams closer towards survival. They’re on a solid run of form, they’re hungrier than the Foxes and we just think all of the pieces are going to come together perfectly for them.
