The Premier League is back in our lives once again this weekend, and we couldn’t be more excited – as always. It’s the division that we all know and love and it’s also the kind of division that throws up surprises, which is why a game like the one we’re about to discuss is so intriguing. Liverpool will be squaring off against Crystal Palace and while this isn’t exactly a traditional David vs Goliath encounter, it’s quite clear to see that the masses will be favouring one side above the other, which is always intriguing.
Liverpool
The Reds are in pole position right now in the race to win the Premier League title, and to say that’s an intriguing position for them to be in would be a dramatic understatement. They’re one of the most exciting teams in world football, let alone English football, and everyone needs to start taking notice of that fact. Jurgen Klopp has built a team that is more than capable of winning every single competition they take part in, but the big question is how are they going to manage their resources.
Team News
Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to sit out for around a month with a knee injury, with Milner being expected to come in at right back. Wijnaldum is also a doubt with a knee problem.
Crystal Palace
Under the guidance of Roy Hodgson, Crystal Palace have certainly got themselves to the point where they don’t really have to worry about the threat of relegation – at least, in our book anyway. There’s still a lot of work to be done before they can officially be considered safe, though, and it feels like their fans are well aware of that fact. They’re an intriguing team to watch from a quality perspective, but one thing is for sure: you shouldn’t blink when watching because you could quite easily miss something.
Team News
Speroni is set to return to the starting XI for a rare appearance, with Benteke being tipped to start against his former club.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Liverpool’s Anfield.
- Liverpool have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- Crystal Palace have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Liverpool lead 28-14 with 11 draws in the overall head to head standings.
- In their last meeting back in August, Liverpool won 2-0.
Conclusion
Liverpool may have had a rocky run lately but they’re still, quite clearly, one of the best teams in this division by quite a considerable distance. Palace have a tendency to rock the boat but it feels like that’d be more likely at Selhurst Park, and as a result, we’re backing the Reds to pick them apart a little bit here. It isn’t going to be very competitive in the first half but Liverpool will probably take a more laid back approach in the second, but either way, it should be a fascinating game to watch.
