The Premier League is back once again this weekend with a string of fascinating fixtures, and at the top of that list is Liverpool vs Manchester United. It’s the biggest game in English football between the two most successful clubs the country has ever seen. Their trajectories are a little bit different this time around in comparison to years gone by, but regardless of what pundits think they know, it’s often so difficult to figure out what’s going to happen when these titans meet.

Liverpool

A lot of fans have come to the conclusion that it’s not a case of if – but when Liverpool are going to win the Premier League for the first time ever in its current form. While there are still some that are concerned with the FA Cup and Champions League hampering their performances in the top flight, at this moment in time, very few people would be surprised to ride this train all the way through to the end of the campaign, going unbeaten in the league in the process.

Team News

Lovren, Matip and Fabinho are all back in training and should be available sooner rather than later, but they still have a few issues in the middle of the park with Keita and Milner being out action as well as Clyne.

Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs at least a few more transfer windows in order to sort out the current state of this Manchester United team, but whether he’s going to be given that sort of time is a different matter altogether. The fans largely trust in what he’s trying to do but this sort of hard grind isn’t something they’re used to at Old Trafford. Often in the derby, though, the rule book is well and truly thrown out of the window.

Team News

The fitness of Rashford is a big concern in the wake of his brief cameo against Wolves. Rojo, Tuanzebe, McTominay, Pogba & Shaw have all been ruled out whereas Bailly and Fosu-Mensah are doubts.

Factors to Consider

  • Manchester United are the only team to avoid defeat against Liverpool in the Premier League this season.
  • Liverpool have won their last seven games in all competitions.
  • Manchester United have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
  • Liverpool have scored 10 goals and conceded none in their last six games.
  • Manchester United have scored eight goals and conceded five in their last six games.

Conclusion

United are always going to give it all they’ve got in a derby game of this magnitude, but this time around, we don’t think they’re going to have the same sort of success. The finish line already seems to be in sight for this Liverpool side and if that’s the case, they’re going to put their foot down and really make their league dominance count. The visitors might end up getting the equivalent of a consolation goal, but aside from that, we can’t picture them doing much.
