While the domestic season may be over across Europe, there’s still a lot of football left to be played in the United States as this year’s Major League Soccer campaign rolls on. A parade of clubs across both conferences are hoping that they can make it to the post-season and today, we’re going to take a look at a clash between two of the very best: Los Angeles FC and New York Red Bulls.

Los Angeles FC

After coming firing out of the blocks as an extension team way back in 2019, even winning the Supporters’ Shield, LAFC haven’t quite been able to live up to the hype since then. They tend to smash the regular season out of the park before crumbling in the play-offs and they’ll hope to put an end to that trend this time around, especially given that they’re rising high at the top of the Western Conference.

Team News

Duenas, Gaines and Romero are all out of action through injury right now with Tajouri-Shradi and Escobar being viewed as the only other fitness concern.

New York Red Bulls

While they may have captured the Supporters’ Shield three times throughout their history, while being one of the most recognisable clubs in the league, New York hasn’t been able to bring home the championship that they desire. They finished as runners-up in 2008 and have been longing for more success ever since, with their current 2nd place position in the Eastern Conference giving them real hope.

Team News

Ngoma, Monzon and Reyes are all injured whereas Harper is a doubt for this one and will be assessed prior to kick-off.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in February, LAFC beat NY Red Bulls 6-1.
  • LAFC have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
  • NY Red Bulls have won one, drawn three and lost two of their last six games.
  • LAFC have scored nine goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
  • NY Red Bulls have scored nine goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.

Conclusion

These two juggernauts are playing at the top of their game right now and we expect that to bleed into a good old-fashioned east vs west showdown here. We think there are going to be a lot of shots on goal, a whole host of entertaining midfield battles, and not a lot of stoppages. In the end, our prediction for the final score is 2-2 with both sides probably being relatively happy with that as a result.
