While the domestic season may be over across Europe, there’s still a lot of football left to be played in the United States as this year’s Major League Soccer campaign rolls on. A parade of clubs across both conferences are hoping that they can make it to the post-season and today, we’re going to take a look at a clash between two western clubs in very different spots: Los Angeles FC and Seattle Sounders.

It’s a case of Groundhog Day for Los Angeles FC as, once again, they’re riding high at the top of the Western Conference with the kind of record that could easily see them take home a second Supporters’ Shield. The problem, as the majority of us can see, is that they aren’t clutch enough to make it through to the very top once the post-season rolls around – at least, that’s what the evidence suggests.

Seattle Sounders

They’ve qualified for the play-offs in each of their 12 seasons, they’ve won the MLS Cup twice, the Champions League once and have the highest average attendance in the MLS. This is the definition of a proper franchise and even though Seattle haven’t quite found the right setup just yet, it’d be foolish to believe they can’t work their way into the post-season once again.

• LAFC are 1st in the Western Conference whereas Seattle are 9th.
• LAFC have won five and lost one of their last six games.
• Seattle have won two and lost four of their last six games.
• LAFC have scored 12 goals and conceded five in their last six games.
• Seattle have scored five goals and conceded eight in their last six games.

Conclusion

While we may be talking about two clubs that are used to mixing it up at the top, only one of them is actually doing so right now. LAFC seem to be firing on all cylinders at the moment and at home, against a side struggling for consistency, we can’t picture a scenario in which they’re going to slip up defensively. As a result, we’re going to predict that the hosts walk away with a 2-0 win.
