While the Premier League may be enjoying its winter break, the same can’t be said for the Championship as the race to reach the top flight of English football continues. Many clubs are now two thirds of the way through their campaign and while there’s still a long way to go given how competitive the league is, the true contenders are starting to emerge – with Luton Town and Blackburn Rovers being two of them.
Luton
After an inconsistent first half of the season, Luton are once again emerging as dark horses in the push for promotion. They’re currently six points off of the playoffs but with two games in hand, it may not be long before they close that gap in a big way. The emphatic nature of their style of play also means, fingers crossed, we’re going to be in for some really entertaining clashes between now and May.
Blackburn
Blackburn Rovers have been seen by many as a “sleeping giant” given their status as former Premier League champions, and now, they’re finally beginning to resemble a club that could genuinely go after an automatic promotion spot – and at the very least, a place in the playoffs. They’re in 2nd at this moment in time and given the squad they’ve assembled, it’d be pretty surprising to see them fall away from the pack.
Factors to Consider
- Luton are 10th in the Championship whereas Blackburn are 2nd.
- Luton have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- Blackburn have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Luton have scored 12 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Blackburn have scored six goals and conceded six in their last six games.
Conclusion
The first meeting between these two sides back in September ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw and based on everything we’ve seen from them both in recent weeks, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them share the spoils once again. Luton will attempt to use the influence of their home crowd to their advantage by pushing Blackburn back and, for the most part, we think it’ll work – with Rovers likely scoring late on to secure a 1-1 draw.
