Despite the mass uncertainty surrounding the future of domestic football across Europe due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, it appears as if it’s going to be business as usual in the Premier League. Tomorrow night Manchester City will be hosting Arsenal in a huge game at the Etihad, with City knowing that if they lose, Liverpool will be just one win away from lifting the Premier League title up high – if we don’t start seeing cancellations throughout the country, that is.
Manchester City
The main focus for Manchester City seems to be on winning the UEFA Champions League at this stage, with everyone being well aware of the fact that it’s just a matter of time until Liverpool are crowned Champions of England for the first time in 30 years. City will do everything they can to push them all the way but after being beaten by Manchester United, it feels like they’ve already got one eye on the second leg against Atletico Madrid.
Team News
Laporte has been ruled out through injury whereas Sane and De Bruyne are both doubts to feature, although Sane has returned to training with the first team. D. Silva, Mendy, Mahrez and Walker are all tipped to feature.
Arsenal
Between the FA Cup and the race for the top four, it’s going to be a busy final few months of the season for Mikel Arteta. Everyone seems to be unanimous in agreeing that this Arsenal squad is full of world class attacking players, but the main problem is that they’ve balanced that out with a defensive unit that, well, can’t really defend. Now, it’s all about pushing on and testing themselves against a team that is considered to be much, much better than their own.
Team News
Chambers, Soares, Tierney, Kolasinac and Torreira have all been ruled out through injury whereas Bellerin is a doubt after playing through the pain barrier across the last few weeks. Mari is expected to feature once again after a strong start to his Arsenal career.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in December, Manchester City beat Arsenal 3-0.
- Manchester City have won five and lost one of their last six games.
- Arsenal have won five and lost one of their last six games.
- Manchester City have scored eight goals and conceded four in their last six games.
- Arsenal have scored 12 goals and conceded four in their last six games.
Conclusion
City will create more scoring opportunities, they’ll be quicker to every loose ball, they’ll control the pace of the game and they’ll cause all sorts of general defensive issues for this Arsenal team. We don’t think they’re going to run away with it by any stretch of the imagination, but we also think this is probably going to be one of the Gunners’ worst showings under new manager Mikel Arteta. City will get the three points, strengthening their grip on second place in the process.
