The UEFA Champions League returns once again this week as we officially begin the quarter-final stage of this illustrious competition. We’re confident in saying there are plenty of twists and turns still to come between now and the final, and we’re anticipating a few will take place tomorrow night when Manchester City will host Borussia Dortmund in a Premier League vs Bundesliga clash that could prove to be the tie of the round.

Manchester City

Manchester City have the chance to make history by capturing an utterly unprecedented quadruple this season. They’re the favourites to win the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and, in the eyes of many, Champions League. The latter is the one trophy they haven’t been able to capture during their rise to prominence and Pep Guardiola is probably going to view that as his absolute priority as we enter the final phase of this enticing season.

Team News

As if City didn’t have enough going for them, Pep is going to have a fully fit squad to choose from with many expecting some serious rotation following the win over Leicester at the weekend.

Borussia Dortmund

It’s safe to say the Bundesliga season hasn’t gone quite to plan for Borussia Dortmund but if there’s going to be a way for them to end things on a high, it’ll be by putting in a really strong shift in the Champions League. It seems like a daunting task that lies ahead of them but at this point, they really don’t have anything to lose. A rebuilding mission is clearly going to be on the cards sooner rather than later and from there, what happens is anyone’s guess.

Team News

The hope is that Erling Haaland will lead the line on Tuesday but beyond that, Dortmund do have a few issues to contend with. Moukoko is a fitness doubt with Witsel, Zagadou and Schmelzer being ruled out, although the real headline is that Man United target Jadon Sancho will be absent too.

Factors to Consider

  • Man City beat Monchengladbach in the Round of 16 whereas Dortmund beat Sevilla.
  • Man City have won five and lost one of their last six games.
  • Dortmund have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
  • Man City have scored 14 goals and conceded four in their last six games.
  • Dortmund have scored 10 goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.

Conclusion

Borussia Dortmund have a few secret weapons that are probably going to cause Manchester City some problems but the longer this game goes on without any goals, the more we’re going to favour the hosts. They just seem to have this ability in them to drain teams before really going after them and causing damage of their own, as proven by the fact that they haven’t conceded in their last four games. We’re backing City to secure a 1-0 win to take forward into the second leg.

Prediction: Man City win
