The Premier League is back once again this weekend as we enter the always-crazy month of December. There are so many teams up and down the top flight who are in desperate need of some points on the board now that we’re in the midst of the busy winter schedule, mainly because momentum can be such a vital piece of the puzzle during this time of the year. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at what could be a fascinating David vs Goliath encounter: Manchester City vs Fulham.
Manchester City
Manchester City find themselves in a unique position right now, because while they may still be one of the best teams in world football, they’re starting to really fly under the radar as contenders both domestically and in Europe. Sure, the preference would be for them to be feared by any and all sides that come up against them, but this could really benefit them this season. They’re good enough to beat just about everyone that they face, and all they’re really doing is waiting until next summer when they hope to make their biggest splash yet in the transfer market.
Team News
The primary concern for City will be the continued absence of Sergio Aguero with the Argentine being tipped to miss out following a small setback in his ongoing recovery.
Fulham
Fulham appeared to be nailed on relegation favourites at the start of the campaign but after picking up a few impressive wins in the last few weeks, some are starting to re-evaluate their opinion of Scott Parker’s squad. They aren’t likely to go on a magnificent winning run now that they’ve got some points under their belt, but in equal measure, they aren’t going to be the whipping boys that we were all expecting them to be.
Team News
Mitrovic is expected to settle for a place on the bench for the trip up to Manchester, whereas Kongolo and Tete are both still out through injury.
Factors to Consider
- Man City haven’t lost to Fulham for 11 years, stretching back over 15 games.
- Man City have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- Fulham have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Man City have scored 10 goals and conceded three in their last six games.
- Fulham have scored eight goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
Conclusion
We do actually think Fulham are going to put up a decent fight in the early stages of the game against City, but in the end, this isn’t going to be close. Pep Guardiola’s side may be inconsistent but more often than not, they know how to put a beating on those who are lingering around the relegation zone. The Cottagers will probably be able to hold them out for the first 10-15 minutes but from that point on, it’s City’s game to lose.
