The Premier League is back once again this weekend with another full slate of fixtures to take us through to the end of January. There’s still a whole lot of uncertainty regarding what some teams are aiming for and what other teams are struggling with, but either way, there’s a lot of excitement in the air. Today, we’ll take a look at what should be a fun meeting between Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Manchester City
Manchester City aren’t exactly in peril. Still, there are certain expectations in place for this squad, and being more than one or two points off the pace of the title isn’t good enough. Before the Champions League returns they need to start chipping away at the Gunners and as per Guardiola, the best way for them to do that is by getting the fans behind them and ensuring the passion is back from minute one.
Team News
Rico Lewis is a fitness concern for this one but aside from that, we should expect to see the strongest starting XI possible here.
Wolves
Wolverhampton Wanderers (probably) won’t have to worry about relegation by the time we come to April or May. Unfortunately, despite all of their new signings and the addition of Julen Lopetegui, nothing is guaranteed. They need to show a bit of fire in this game, as they have done since the winter break, and they have to do everything in their power to prove they should be at the opposite end of the table.
Team News
Sarabia may well feature in his debut with the confirmed absentees continuing to be Chiquinho, Kalajdzic, Traore and Neto.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in September, Man City beat Wolves 3-0.
- Man City have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Wolves have won one, drawn three and lost two of their last six games.
- Man City have scored 11 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- Wolves have scored five goals and conceded six in their last six games.
Conclusion
Wolves can’t afford to play out from the back against a revitalised City side that will be hungry to close the gap on Arsenal. They’ll try and do so, but it’ll lead to a difficult day at the office for them. We expect to see the hosts put the pressure on, but as tends to be the case, it’ll be honours even heading into the break. Alas, that’ll all change in the second half, with Pep leading his side to a relatively comfortable 2-0 win.
