After over two months of waiting, the Premier League is back this weekend with a whole host of fixtures for fans to sink their teeth into. Another campaign full of drama, twists and turns lies ahead with all 20 clubs having their own expectations for what’s ahead. In what should prove to be an entertaining return to Sunday football, Manchester United will host Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

Manchester United

Manchester United Football Club have spent a long time in the shadows following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson almost a decade ago. There’s no guarantee that things are going to turn around this season but in Erik ten Hag, they’ve got a no-nonsense manager who is seriously determined to alter the status quo. It’s going to be a tough year, but when you’re trying to start from scratch, that’s bound to happen.

Team News

Martial has been ruled out of this one through injury with Sancho and Shaw both likely being unfit to feature.

Brighton

There’s an argument to be made that Graham Potter should be heavily considered for the England position after the World Cup if Gareth Southgate sees his Three Lions falter. The reason for that is simple: he’s done a cracking job with Brighton to the point where if they push for another top half finish, and perhaps even more than that, we don’t think anyone would bat an eye.

Team News

Moder is out through injury with Welbeck and March both being tipped to start, the latter due to Cucurella’s switch to Stamford Bridge.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in May, Brighton beat Man United 4-0.
  • Man United finished 6th in the Premier League with 58 points.
  • Brighton finished 9th in the Premier League with 51 points.
  • Man United lost 1-0 to Atletico Madrid in their final pre-season friendly.
  • Brighton beat Espanyol 5-1 in their final pre-season friendly.

Conclusion

We do think this is going to be a pretty close affair with United having to take some time to really find their feet, but ultimately, this should be the hosts’ game to lose. They’re going to make a song and dance of it as they always do but with CR7 likely lingering, we expect him to score the winning goal late in the day for a 2-1 Red Devils win to open up an uncertain season.

Prediction: Man United win
