We’re into the final few weeks of the Premier League season and things are really starting to heat up at both ends of the table. The title race is as close as it’s been in years, the relegation scrap is still wide open and all 20 clubs want to make a statement before the campaign draws to a close. Today, we’re going to take a look at what should be an intense clash between two sides fighting for the top four – Manchester United and Chelsea.

Manchester United

Manchester United Football Club are in a really rough spot and to be honest, that’s been the case for most of the last ten years – by their standards, anyway. Ralf Rangnick will be making way for the new man in charge this summer but in order to really get out of the funk they’re in, they first need to figure out how to fix the psychological side of the issues they’ve been having.

Team News

Pogba, Cavani and Shaw have all been ruled out through injury, Fred is a fitness doubt and all signs point towards Fernandes being dropped.

Chelsea

Chelsea supporters can tell their club is crawling towards the finish line with the primary hope being that they don’t slip up and allow other teams to smell blood in the water. They’re pretty comfortable with a seven point cushion over fifth place but they can never be too careful, especially with the momentum they’ll need heading into the FA Cup final next month.

Team News

Kovacic, Chilwell and Hudson-Odoi are all injured with the only other fitness concerns, as of this writing, being Rudiger and James.

Factors to Consider

  • Man United are 6th in the Premier League whereas Chelsea are 3rd.
  • Man United have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
  • Chelsea have won four and lost two of their last six games.
  • Man United have scored five goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
  • Chelsea have scored 15 goals and conceded nine in their last six games.

Conclusion

While both sides may be vulnerable at the back, we think the feeling of apathy and trepidation associated with a game this important will take over for both the hosts and the visitors. They’ll be hesitant to pull the trigger, fly into too many challenges and disrupt the rhythm of the play. In the end, they’ll leave with a point apiece in the definition of an anticlimactic 0-0 draw.
