The Premier League returns to our screens this weekend with another full slate of action from English football’s top tier. In the wake of some League Cup and FA Cup action, a parade of clubs are itching to get back to some EPL football – largely because everything is still wide open from the top of the league to the bottom. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an entertaining clash between Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
Manchester United
Team News
Butland is ineligible for this one with Dalot being a fitness concern. Elsewhere, Eriksen will join van de Beek and Tuanzebe on the injury shelf.
Crystal Palace
While it hasn’t been an extraordinary season for Crystal Palace, it certainly hasn’t been a dreadful one. The problem for Patrick Vieira is going to be finding a shred of consistency within the core of his squad which, in this division, is easier said than done. The talent is quite clearly there to make it happen, especially at Selhurst Park, but they need to start gaining some confidence away from home.
Team News
Zaha’s injury means that he will join Andersen, McArthur and Ferguson in being unavailable for this game.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting on January 18th, Palace and United drew 1-1.
- United have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- Palace have won one, drawn two and lost three of their last six games.
- United have scored 13 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Palace have scored four goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
Conclusion
We do expect to see Palace come forward with some confidence here, even if they’ll end up being a bit hamstrung in the final third. This game will take us back to the Ferguson days of United controlling the game, albeit in a boring manner at times, only to explode into life. The Red Devils will strike with ruthless aggression and efficiency, eventually taking home a comfortable 2-0 win.
