The Premier League is back once again this weekend with the final set of fixtures prior to the upcoming international break. There are plenty of showpiece games happening across the next few days with a good chunk of them happening on Sunday but in the early kick-off tomorrow, we should be in for a cracker at Old Trafford.
Manchester United will play host to Everton in a clash between two sides who will fancy themselves to have a good season between now and May.
Manchester United
Manchester United are so unpredictable that we think it’ll take until the final kick of the campaign for us to determine whether or not they’ve been a success story in 2021/22. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done everything he can to strengthen the squad and build them in his own vision but now is the time to flip the script. He needs to start getting more out of his team on the pitch, and that goes for everyone from the star attractions all the way down to the fringe players.
Team News
Shaw is expected to return with his inclusion in the England squad being a pretty good sign of that with Diallo, Maguire and Rashford all still being on the shelf until after the international break.
Everton
Many fans were understandably cautious when Rafa Benitez first came through the door but ever since arriving, we’d argue that he’s exceeded expectations. There’s still a long way to go and the next few transfer windows are going to be key for the club but they appear to have found a gritty system that works well for them. At the very least they’re finding a bit more consistency and if that leads to a top six push, the fanbase will be pretty pleased with that.
Team News
Pickford is back to being a fitness doubt whereas Digne has fully recovered and should play here. Alas, the visitors will still be without several key players as Gomes and Gbamin are doubtful with Coleman, Richarlison, Delph, Calvert-Lewin and Sigurdsson all being unavailable.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in February, Man United and Everton drew 2-2.
- Man United have won three and lost three of their last six games.
- Everton have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- Man United have scored nine goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- Everton have scored 11 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
Conclusion
We expect to see the typical United formula of “win after going behind” falling short here and instead, the Red Devils will simply control the pace of the game and overwhelm Everton from start to finish. The Toffees have started the season brightly but if United can actually start well for once and really get behind them, especially off the back of their late winner in the Champions League, we think they should ease to a 2-0 or even 3-0 win here.
