The Premier League has been on fire as of late, and we aren’t done by a long shot in 2018. The Christmas period is going to be challenging to say the least with the majority of clubs having the definition of a hectic schedule, but such is the nature of English football. Manchester United will be back in action when they take on a Fulham side that has a lot more reasons to be hopeful than they did just a few weeks ago. Of course, United themselves are also going in search of some inspiration – and that’s putting it lightly.
Manchester United
The inconsistency of Manchester United is something that needs to change sooner rather than later, or else Mourinho could be looking for a new job before we even reach the end of the season. They have a phenomenal squad and they’re more than capable of making a serious challenge for the top four, but there just seems to be some kind of mental block that keeps causing them to slip up. If they can string together a few big wins, then it seems like there’s no reason why they can’t push the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham all the way.
Team News
Mata & Young are expected to return to the starting XI, with Martial being a doubt due to a fitness concern.
Fulham
Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Claudio Ranieri has already been able to breathe new life into Fulham’s Premier League campaign, and he’s only been in charge for a matter of weeks. There’s a lot of work still to be done but the initial signs are positive, especially when you look at the quality of the Cottagers’ squad. They’re more than capable of causing an upset against anyone in this league, and United are there for the taking in more ways than one.
Team News
Schurrle is set to feature with Tom Cairney being expected to play a big part in the game.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Manchester United’s Old Trafford.
- Man United have won two, drawn three and lost one of their last six games.
- Fulham have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
- Man United lead the overall head to head standings 49-14 with 19 draws.
- In their last meeting in February 2014, the two sides drew 2-2.
Conclusion
Fulham seem like they have a new kind of energy that they’re going to be feeding off in the next few months, but it doesn’t feel like that’s going to be enough to secure a result here. We think United are going to take the lead relatively early on in the game before the Cottagers equalise, but it won’t last. Jose Mourinho has a habit of turning things around when it looks like it’s as bleak as can be at Old Trafford, so we’re predicting a last minute winner that helps to keep United’s top four hopes alive and well.
