The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world, and as such, fans from around the globe expect some of the ‘bigger names’ to make an impact on a week by week basis. Alas, that’s much easier said than done, and two such examples of teams failing to live up to expectations are Manchester United and Newcastle United. The two are in desperate need of a big result, and such is the beauty of the EPL that the schedule happens to pit these two teams against one another at such a pivotal point in their respective campaigns.
Manchester United
The decline of both Manchester United and Jose Mourinho has been well documented, with a parade of media members already writing them off with less than eight games gone so far this season. While we don’t think things are quite so dramatic for them at this moment in time, things certainly need to change, and Jose needs to figure out a way in which to set up his team so they’re prepared for what’s ahead. Newcastle aren’t the best of teams, but at this stage, anyone can beat United – and vice versa.
Team News
Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba will likely both start, serving as the driving forces for United in what many are calling a must win.
Newcastle United
Rafa Benitez has been crying out for some kind of support for a while now, and despite how bad things seem to have gotten behind the scenes, he still gives off an aura of confidence that should inspire the majority of Geordies who support the old black & white. They’re stuck in a relegation battle rut at the moment and need to desperately try and pull themselves out of it, and it genuinely feels like one big surprise result could do that. Perhaps that’ll come at Old Trafford this weekend.
Team News
Salomon Rondon and Florian Lejeune are still out, although Fernandez and Dummett could both return to the starting XI.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Manchester United’s Old Trafford.
- Manchester United have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
- Newcastle have drawn one and lost five of their last six games.
- Manchester United lead 84-42 in the overall head to head standings.
- In their last meeting, Newcastle beat Man United 1-0.
Conclusion
It’s used to be incredibly difficult to imagine Manchester United dropping points at home against the majority of teams in the division, but now, it’s almost an expectation. We aren’t quite so pessimistic in comparison to actual United fans, because while they may not be at their best right now, neither are Newcastle. This isn’t going to be a pretty game of football to watch and people need to prepare themselves for that, and in terms of an official prediction, we think Jose Mourinho’s side are going to edge out a close win.
