Manchester United and Watford will face each other in the FA Cup this weekend. The third-round tie between the Premier League club and the Championship outfit will kick off at 8pm UK time at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Manchester United

Manchester United will head into the third-round tie against Watford at Old Trafford on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at home in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup. The Red Devils conceded both goals in the second half, John Stones putting Pep Guardiola’s side in the lead in the 50th minute and Fernandinho making it 2-0 with a brilliant strike seven minutes from the full-time whistle.

The EFL Cup was a genuine chance of United winning a major trophy this season, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be determined to bounce back against Watford. United are doing well in the Premier League at the moment and will want to go on a long FA Cup run as well.

Team news:

Solskjaer is likely to field a strong team against Watford and book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup without any problem. Dean Henderson could retain his place the starting lineup, with Bruno Fernandes is likely to be creator-in-chief again.

Watford

Watford’s main objective this season is to finish in the top two of the Championship table and clinch automatic promotion back to the Premier League. The Hornets are playing in the second tier of English football at the moment after getting relegated from the top flight at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Hornets are not doing exactly great, as they are currently sixth in the Championship table at the moment with 37 points from 22 matches, six points behind second-placed Swansea City and as many as 10 points behind leaders Norwich City. New manager Xisco, though, will hope that his side put on a good showing against Premier League giants United. Watford will head into the match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Swansea away from home at the Liberty Stadium in the Championship.

Team news:

Tom Cleverley could start against his former club, while Troy Deeney is likely to lead the line for Watford.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Manchester United have scored 33 goals in 16 Premier League matches.
  • Watford have scored 25 goals in 22 Championship matches.
  • Manchester United have conceded 24 goals in 16 Premier League games.
  • Watford have conceded 37 goals in 22 Championship games.
  • Manchester United beat Watford 3-0 at Old Trafford in February 2020.

Conclusion

Watford will not make it easy for United, but the most likely outcome of the tie is a win for the home team.

Prediction: Manchester United to win 3-0
