Looking to lay down another title marker on Sunday lunchtime, Napoli will welcome Atalanta to Naples.

Napoli

Starting with the hosts, while Napoli might have endured a public nightmare last season, the Azzurri have only continued on a remarkable rise since Antonio Conte’s arrival over the summer. Flying out of the traps since opening up the new campaign and rightfully receiving a string of plaudits from across the continent, the mood around Naples appears to be at a red-hot high. Opening this weekend’s fixtures leading the chase at the top of the Serie A table, the former Tottenham boss will be calling on his high-flying squad to lay down another title marker on Sunday lunchtime. Last seen earlier in the week clinching a stellar 2-0 victory away at AC Milan, Napoli are riding what has become a sensational wave of momentum. In fact, Conte’s side have collected 25 points from just their last nine Serie A appearances.

Team News

Once again missing out away at AC Milan in midweek and still dealing with a recent thigh injury, Napoli will be without the services of Slovakian international Stanislav Lobotka on Sunday lunchtime. However, aside from the one-time Celta Vigo star, Conte’s camp have reported a clean bill of health.

Finding the net on his return to the San Siro on Tuesday night, summer recruit Romelu Lukaku will spearhead Napoli’s attack. Likewise, already registering five Serie A strikes so far this season, Georgian superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will partner Lukaku in the final third.

Atalanta

As for the visitors, while Napoli might steal plenty of the headlines heading into Sunday’s trip to Naples, Atalanta are in the midst of their own extended flurry. Making real history last season as they got their hands on a maiden piece of European silverware, La Dea have once again impressed this time around. Last seen earlier in the week clinching a 2-0 victory against Monza, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have collected 16 points from their previous six appearances across all competitions. Laying down what was a major statement last weekend as they secured a thumping 6-1 romp against Verona, Atalanta have also found quite the clinical edge in the final third. Heading into October’s international break with a 5-1 victory at home against Genoa, La Dea have recorded 26 Serie A strikes so far this season and they currently hold the best attacking tally among Italy’s elite.

Team News

Yet to make a single appearance across any competition so far this season, ex-West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca remains on the sidelines with a long-term knee injury. Likewise, academy graduate Giorgio Scalvini will not feature in La Dea’s squad on Sunday lunchtime.

Once again linked with a potential Premier League return ahead of the January transfer window, Ademola Lookman has already recorded eight direct goal contributions this season and will play a leading role in the final third. Former Everton defender Ben Godfrey could make a first domestic appearance since August 19th.

Key Factors to Consider

    • When Napoli and Atalanta last met back on March 30th, La Dea collected a stunning 3-0 romp in Naples.
    • However, aside from that infamous 3-0 drumming, Napoli have won each of their other four meetings against Sunday’s guests.
    • Six of the last eight meetings between Napoli and Atalanta have finished with over 2.5 goals.
    • Likewise, seven of their previous nine showdowns in Naples have finished with over 2.5 goals.
    • Atalanta have lost just a pair of their previous eight trips to Naples – a run that stems all the way back to August 2017.

    Conclusion

While Atalanta might have continued to impress on either side of October’s international break, La Dea certainly have a real challenge on their hands here. With Napoli already holding a four-point buffer at the top of the Serie A table, Sunday’s hosts are suddenly pencilled in as a leading title contender this season. Now collecting 25 points from their previous nine top-flight appearances, Conte’s high-flying squad will be looking to lay down another marker in Naples. Gaining a real reputation for their defensive steel, we are backing a home draw no bet this weekend.

    Verdict: Napoli draw no bet

    Best Odds: 3/5
