The domestic season is coming to an end across European football, and in some instances it already has. Over in Italy, though, there are still a few weeks left to play as we finally settle the lingering questions in Serie A. One of them is who will secure their place in the top four, with a series of clubs still being in the running. Inter Milan are in the driving seat but we all know that anything can change at this level in the blink of an eye, especially when you’re going up against a team as good as Napoli.
Napoli
Napoli have certainly had a season to remember, but their failures in Europe (and failure to make the title race a bit closer) will leave them with plenty to think about over the summer. The best thing that they could hope to do now would be to finish the season in the strongest way possible, and that’ll mean wanting a big time win over Inter Milan. You could argue that they might already be on their holidays in one sense, but even if that’s the case, they’re good enough to get a result from Inter even without their full focus.
Team News
A muscle problem will keep Insigne out of the game, with Milik and Mertens being tipped to start ahead of Younes.
Inter Milan
The rumours and speculation regarding what Inter want to accomplish in the summer transfer window is enough to get anyone excited. They were once a team to be reckoned with both in Italy and Europe and it seems like they’re serious about getting back to that point, regardless of what it’s going to take in order to do so. They’re a really efficient team and while they’ve certainly slowed down in recent weeks, we think they’ll explode back into life in the next few games in order to seal third place.
Team News
Brozovic and D’Ambrosio are back after recent suspensions, although Politano and de Vrij are big doubts.
Factors to Consider
- This game will be played at San Paolo.
- Napoli have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- Inter Milan have won two and drawn four of their last six games.
- Napoli have scored 10 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Inter Milan have scored seven goals and conceded three in their last six games.
Conclusion
This should be a really entertaining game between two teams who will feel like they could really challenge Juventus next season. Napoli are probably the more complete team but it feels as if Inter have a lot of momentum going in their direction, and they’ll know that they could secure a place in the top four with a win. We’re going to say that the nerves will get the best of them in the end, though, as they’ll be unable to break the home side down. Still, a draw under these circumstances is still pretty good going.
