The new year is upon us and as a result, we’re ready to take a look at a whole new host of Premier League fixtures. The division is stronger than it has been in a long time with some of Europe’s finest battling it out – which is always a good thing. Today we’ll see another host of games to feast our eyes upon, with the late kick off taking place between Newcastle United and Manchester United. It’s a historic fixture between two of England’s most notable clubs, and something is telling us that we’re in for a good one.
Newcastle
It’s no secret that Rafa Benitez has had his fair share of struggles over the course of the season, but even so, the Magpies still seem to be popping up with big results here and there. Even earlier this season they pushed United all the way, but of course, the vibe around the club hasn’t exactly improved in that time. They’re still more than capable of doing some big things in the Premier League, but it’s just a case of putting that into practice instead of talking about hypotheticals.
Team News
Federico Fernandez is a doubt for the game although Jonjo Shelvey will be hoping that he can return.
Manchester United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been able to introduce a brand new ‘vibe’ around Old Trafford, and that’s just a great position for the club to be in. Given that he’s nothing more than a loan appointment it would certainly seem as if he’s making a great case to get the job permanently, but after a great start, it’s time to see whether or not the Honeymoon period will continue. There’s a long way to go this season and United fans will still be expecting them to make a push for the top four.
Team News
Forward Marcus Rashford will miss this one through a groin injury, as defender Eric Bailly sits out courtesy of a suspension.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Newcastle’s St James’ Park.
- Newcastle have won one, drawn three and lost two of their last six games.
- Manchester United have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- Manchester United lead 85-42 with 39 draws in the overall head to head standings.
- Manchester United won their last meeting 3-2 back in October.
Conclusion
As much as we’d like to believe that Newcastle can get a big result, purely to see how the new-look Red Devils will react, we don’t think that’s going to happen. We’re expecting a really competitive game in the first hour or so with the Magpies putting up a really good fight, but in the end, it won’t mean much. They’ll be physical and they’ll attempt to bully the visitors off the ball, only for United to score a few goals late in the day to extend OGS’ winning streak as manager to four games.
