The domestic season has come to an end which means that it is time for the international game to take to the stage once more. In addition to the Africa Cup of Nations, Copa America and Women’s World Cup, there are also European Championship qualifiers for us to enjoy. The tournament is just over a year away, and with that in mind, it’s time for nations all across the continent to make their case for competing in what should be the big football talking point of summer 2020.
Norway
The Norwegians have had their moments throughout the course of football history, but for the most part, they haven’t really been able to enjoy any extended periods of success. They’ve had successful players that have done well domestically, but that’s a different point entirely. With a loss to Spain and a dramatic draw against Sweden they’ve certainly been keeping themselves busy in the group so far, but a win here is pretty much a must – even though they’ve already secured a play-off spot.
Team News
Rune Jarstein, Iver Fossum, and Alexander Sørloth will all be set to miss out for Norway, with the three goalkeepers in the squad only having seven appearances between them.
Romania
The Romanians were able to pick up a win against Faroe Islands in their latest group fixture, but their opening round defeat to Sweden left many fans wondering whether or not this team is good enough to make it back to a major international tournament. They’ll need to buck up their ideas in the next few games or they could be left in the dust, especially given the quality of the teams around them. There are some solid players within their ranks, but they just need to be able to piece it all together as a team.
Team News
Costel Pantilimon, Cosmin Moți, Cristian Ganea and Andrei Ivan haven’t been selected, whereas Iulian Cristea and Andrei Radu are both being tipped to make their debuts for the national team.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo.
- Norway have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- Romania have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- Norway have scored nine goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Romania have scored 11 goals and conceded four in their last six games.
Conclusion
One thing that we’re expecting to see throughout the course of this game is free-flowing and attacking football from both sides of the coin. We may not end up getting that but at the end of the day, qualification for a major international tournament is up for grabs here. Both nations have a long way to go before being considered contenders within the European game, but a win here could set them up perfectly for what should be a pretty entertaining group in the race for Euro 2020 qualification.
