Paris Saint-Germain and Angers will face each other in Ligue 1 this week. The match between Les Rouge-et-Bleu and Les Noirs et Blancs will be held at Parc des Princes and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Wednesday.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain are the biggest club of France and have become regular winners of the Ligue 1 title. PSG won the title last season when former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino was in charge of the first team. Christophe Galtier is now the manager of PSG, and it looks like the Parisian club will clinch the title again, although it may be a bit harder this time around.

PSG are at the top of the Ligue 1 table at the moment with 44 points from 17 matches, just four points above second-placed Lens. Marseille, PSG’s bitter rivals, are third on 36 points from 17 games. PSG are not running away with the title, but there is no doubt that they have the best squad in the country.

Galtier’s side will head into the Ligue 1 match against Angers at Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening on the back of a 3-1 victory over Chateauroux away from home in the Coupe de France. It came after a 3-2 loss at the hands of Lens away from home in Ligue 1.

Team News:

Lionel Messi is set to return for Paris Saint-Germain. The former Barcelona forward won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina and only recentlyreturned to training. It will be interesting to see if Messi starts on Wednesday evening.

Kylian Mbappe, who played for France against Arsenal in the World Cup final, will start against Angers, and so should Brazil international forward Neymar.

Renato Sanches is likely to be out due to injury. Achraf Hakimi is suspended and will be replaced in the team by  Nordi Mukiele. Presnel Kimpembe and Nuno Mendes will stay on the sidelines.

Angers

Angers are an established club in Ligue 1 and tend to finish in mid-table, but things are going badly wrong this season. Les Scoïstes have been playing in the top flight of French football since the 2015-16 season and have finished 9th, 12th, 14th, 13th, 10th, 12th and 14th in the league table. They are now at the foot of the Ligue 1 standings now and are in serious danger of getting relegated back to Ligue 2 at the end of the season.

Abdel Bouhazama’s side have picked up just eight points from 17 games. Le SCO are as many as seven points behind 16th-placed Ajaccio, and it seems that they need a miracle to stay in Ligue 1 next season.

Angers have lost their last nine Ligue 1 matches,  including back-to-back losses since Bouhazama was handed the reins of the first team following the sacking of coach Gerald Baticle during the 2022 Qatar World Cup break. They beat Strasbourg away from home on penalties in the Coupe de France last weekend.

Team News:

Ibrahim Amadou (calf), Yahia Fofana (knee), Ulrick Eneme-Ella (knee), Ali Kalla (knee) are doubtful for Angers against Paris Saint-Germain.

Key Factors to Consider:

  • Paris Saint-Germain have scored 46 goals in 17 Ligue 1 matches.
  • Paris Saint-Germain have conceded 13 goals in 17 Ligue 1 matches.
  • Angers have lost 13 out of 17 Ligue 1 games.
  • Angers have conceded 37 goals in 17 Ligue 1 games.
  • Kylian Mbappe has scored 13 goals in 16 Ligue 1 matches for Paris Saint-Germain.

Conclusion

Angers have been the worst team in Ligue 1 so far this season and are likely to get relegated to the second tier of French football at the end of the season. Paris Saint-Germain are the best and strongest team in the league, and it is very likely that they will pick up all three points from the encounter courtesy of a big win.

Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain to win 6-0

Best Odds: 25/1
