Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to maintain their good run of form when they take on Angers at home this week. The Ligue 1 game between PSG and Angers is slated to kick off at 8pm UK time on Friday and will be held at Parc des Princes.
Paris Saint-Germain
PSG started the defence of their Ligue 1 crown slowly. Thomas Tuchel’s side suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Lens sway from home in their opening game of the 2020-21 campaign before going down 1-0 at home to bitter rivals Marseille is a very heated and controversial game. However, since then, last season’s Champions League finalists have been superb and have turned on the style.
The Parisian club edged past Metz 1-0 at home before hammering Nice 3-0 away. Last weekend, PSG got the better of Reims 2-0 on the road to make it three successive Ligue 1 wins. They are now seventh in the league table with nine points from five matches, four points behind leaders Rennes, and are looking ominously brilliant again.
Team news
Juan Bernat is out for PSG with a knee injury, while Brazil international forward Neymar is likely to sit out with a calf problem. Angel Di Maria is suspended, and so is Layvin Kurzawa.
Angers
Angers have started the season strongly and find themselves eighth in the league table at the moment with nine points from five matches, level on points with French giants PSG. Stephane Moulin’s side, though, have been inconsistent, with their 3-2 win against Brest following a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Montpellier.
Les Scoistes finished 11th in the league table in the French top flight last season, and they will be aiming for something similar this time around. One suspects that Angers will consider the match against PSG a ‘free hit’, and the will not be too disappointed if they fail to get anything from the encounter on Friday evening.
Team news
Waniss Taibi will not be in action for Angers against PSG, as he has tested positive for coronavirus. Romain Thomas, Souleyman Doumbia, Rachid Alioui, Farid El Melali and Lois Diony all are injured and will sit out the encounter in Paris.
Key Factors to Consider
- PSG have won their last three matches.
Angers have alternated between wins and defeats this season.
PSG will likely have Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi upfront.
PSG beat Angers 4-0 in Paris in the league last season.
PSG have lost to Angers just three times in history.
Conclusion
PSG have the best team in France, and given the form they are in, it is hard to see them lose all three points. True, PSG are conceding goals, and an early strike for Angers could make things tricky for the home team, but it is still hard to see last season’s Champions League finalists and defending French champions suffer a deal.
