Paris Saint-Germain and Girona will lock horns in the UEFA Champions League this week. The League Phase game between the Ligue 1 club and the La Liga outfit will be held at Parc des Princes and is scheduled to kick off at 8 pm UK time on Wednesday.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain are arguably the biggest club in France and will enter the new UEFA Champions League campaign aiming to win it. PSG have been regulars in Europe’s premier club competition, and although they do tend to go far in it, they are yet to win it.

PSG won the Ligue 1 title last season and are favourites to clinch the championship again this time campaign. Luis Enrique’s side are at the top of the Ligue 1 table at the moment with 12 points from four matches, two points ahead of Olympique Marseille and AS Monaco, who are second and third respectively in the standings.

Les Parisiens will head into the UEFA Champions League game against Girona on the back of a 3-1 victory over Brest at home in Ligue 1. PSG will also face Arsenal, PSV, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Salzburg, Manchester City and Stuttgart in the League Phase.

Team News:

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Warren Zaire-Emery and Vitinha are likely to miss out due to injury issues. Safonov will be in goal for PSG and will have Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho and Mendes in front of him in defence. Zaire-Emery, Neves and Fabian will be the three midfielders. Dembele, Asensio and Barcola are likely to be the three forwards.

Girona

Girona are a modest club in Spain who did extremely well last season. Michel’s side ended up as high as third in the La Liga season and deservedly qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the 2024-25 campaign.

Blanquivermells are doing relatively well at the moment. Girona are seventh in the La Liga table at the moment with seven points from five matches. Michael’s side are four points behind Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Villarreal, who are second, third and fourth respectively in the standings.

Girona will take on Paris Saint-Germain, Feyenoord, Slovan Bratislava, PSV, Sturm Graz, Liverpool, AC Milan and Arsenal in the League Phase.

Team News:

Girona are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Gazzaniga will be in goal for the Spanish club. Frances, Lopez, Blind and Gutierrez will be the four defenders. Martin and Solis will be the two holding midfielders. Gil, Tsygankov and Groeneveld will be the three attacking midfielders. Stuani will lead the line for Girona.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Paris Saint-Germain have won their last 6 matches.
  • Paris Saint-Germain have scored 2 or more goals in 15 of their last 20 matches.
  • Paris Saint-Germain have won 12 of their last 20 matches.
  • Girona have lost 2 and won 2 of their last 5 La Liga games.
  • Girona have scored 8 goals and conceded 8 goals in 5 La Liga games this season.

Conclusion

Girona are a modest club, and it is hard to see the La Liga club put up a good fight against Paris Saint-Germain in France. While the Spanish side will simply not roll over, it is very likely that PSG will register a comfortable win at Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening.
