Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United will lock horns with each other in the Champions League this week. The Group H match at the Parc des Princes in Paris is slated to kick off at 8pm UK time on Tuesday evening.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to make a positive start to their 2020-21 Champions League campaign when they take on Manchester United at home on Tuesday evening. The French giants reached the final of Europe’s premier club competition last season, but they lost arguably the biggest game in their history to Bayern Munich.

Thomas Tuchel’s side will be looking to go again, and given their (relative) success last season, the Parisian club will be confident of going all the way in the competition this time around. PSG started the season slowly and lost to Lens and Marseile in their opening two Ligue 1 games. However, since then, they have won five league matches in a row and are back in form.

Team news:

PSG will be without some of their best players for the big game against United. Star midfielder Marco Verratti is out and so is striker Mauro Icardi. Leandro Paredes, Thilo Kehrer and Juan Bernat will miss the match at the Parc des Princes as well.

However, central defender Marquinhos and attacking midfielder Julian Draxler have returned to training this week and could play against United. Midfielder Danilo Pereira is also available for PSG.

Manchester United

Manchester United have not made the best of starts this season, but the Red Devils will be looking forward to their 2020-21 Champions League campaign. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished third in the Premier League table last season and booked their place in the group stage of the Champions League this campaign.

United, though, are not in great form. True, the Red Devils got the better of Newcastle United 4-1 away from home at St. James’ Park at the weekend, but they were 1-0 down after just two minutes. The former Premier League champions were also hammered 6-1 by Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road in the league before the two-week international break.

No one seriously expects United to win the Champions League this season, but Solkjaer’s side will fancy their chances of progressing to the knockout rounds. PSG are the strongest side in the group and are favourites to win it, but United will feel confident of finishing second ahead of RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Team news:

Central defender Harry Maguire has not travelled with the United squad for the match. Forward Mason Greenwood and strike Edinson Cavani has also been left behind in England. Centre-back Eric Bailly and attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard will not feature in the game either.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Bruno Fernandes will captain Manchester United.
Edinson Cavani will miss out on playing against his former club.
United beat PSG in the last-16 stage in the 2018-19 season.
PSG midfielder Ander Herrera was at United from 2014 to 2019.
  • PSG have won 12 of their last 18 Champions League matches.

Conclusion

Given how good PSG have been in recent weeks and the quality of players they have, it is hard to see the French giants slip up against a United side who have yet to get going this season.

Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain to win 2-0
