Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes will face each other in Ligue 1 this week. The match between Luis Enrique’s side and Julien Stéphan’s team will be held at Parc des Princes and is scheduled to kick off at 8 pm UK time on Friday.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are arguably the biggest team in Ligue 1. They are the dominant force in French football, and, like in most other seasons, they are expected to become the champions of France again.

Luis Enrique’s side won the Ligue 1 title last season and already look like they will retain the title this campaign. PSG are at the top of the Ligue 1 table at the moment with 13 points from five matches, level on points with Marseille and AS Monaco, who are second and third respectively in the standings.

PSG will head into the Ligue 1 match against Rennes on Friday evening on the back of a 1-1 draw with Reims away from home in the league. It came after a 1-0 victory over Girona at Parc des Princes in the UEFA Champions League which followed a 3-1 victory over Brest in front of their fans in the league.

Team News:

Paris Saint-Germain are likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation against Rennes. Matvei Safonov will be in goal for PSG and will have Warren Zaïre-Emery, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho and Lucas Beraldo in front of him in defence. Lee Kang-in, Vitinha and Joao Neves will be the three midfielders. Randal Kolo Muani, Désiré Doué and Bradley Barcola are likely to be the three forwards.

Rennes

Rennes are an established club in France who tend to do well and do not have any worries of getting relegated to Ligue 2. They ended up 10th in the Ligue 1 table last season and would be happy with a similar position in the standings this time around.

Julien Stéphan’s side are eighth in the Ligue 1 table at the moment with seven points from five matches. Rennes are six points behind third-placed AS Monaco.

Rennes will head into the Ligue 1 match against PSG away from home in Ligue 1 on Friday evening on the back of a 1-1 draw with Lens in front of their fans in the league. It came after a 3-0 victory over Montpellier at Roazhon Park in Ligue 1 which followed a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Reims on the road in the league.

Team News:

Rennes are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation against Paris Saint-Germain. Steve Mandanda will be in goal for Rennes and will have Hans Hateboer, Christopher Wooh and Alidu Seidu in front of him in defence. Lorenz Assignon, Baptiste Santamaria, Azor Matusiwa and Adrien Truffert will be the four midfielders. Ludovic Blas and Albert Gronbaek Erlykke will be the two playmakers and will have Arnaud Kalimuendo in front of them as the lone striker.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Paris Saint-Germain have scored 17 goals in 5 Ligue 1 matches so far this season.
  • Paris Saint-Germain have conceded 4 goals in 5 Ligue 1 matches so far this season.
  • Ousmane Dembele has scored 4 goals and given 2 assists in 5 Ligue 1 matches for Paris Saint-Germain so far this season.
  • Rennes have won 2 of their 5 Ligue 1 games so far this campaign.
  • Rennes have conceded 6 goals in 5 Ligue 1 games so far this campaign.

Conclusion

Rennes are doing relatively well at the moment, but Paris Saint-Germain have a better team and have been superb in Ligue 1 so far this season. It is hard to see anything but a comfortable win for PSG in this particular league game.
