Ligue 1 is back in action with a whole of intriguing fixtures up and down France’s top tier in the next few days. We’re expecting to see a whole lot of movement in the table but one thing that should remain the same in the title race – with Paris Saint-Germain leading the way. The super team they’ve assembled is nothing short of spectacular and tomorrow, they’ll attempt to keep their 100% record going when they face Lyon.
PSG
Paris Saint-Germain are creatures of habit – eat, sleep, win, repeat. They’re desperate to try and reclaim the title they lost to Lille and with five wins on the board we’d say they’re well on their way to doing just that. They’ve got a squad that dreams are made of and while domestic success may be towards the top of their priority list, they’ll also be hunting down that elusive European Cup success.
Team News
Di Maria and Gueye should be back for this one after missing out during the week through suspension. However, Ramos, Dagba, Bernat and Verratti have all been ruled out with Kurzawa and Mbappe both being big fitness doubts.
Lyon
They may have only lost one of their opening five league games but Lyon still need to step things up if they want to eclipse their fourth place finish from last season which, to some, was a disappointment – despite being an improvement on what they’d achieved twelve months prior. Historically speaking they’re one of the biggest and best clubs in the country but they need to reignite that team cohesion which has dipped slightly since big changes were made during the summer.
Team News
Marcelo, Dubois, Mendes and Kadawere have all been ruled out of action for this one but Shaqiri is expected to return. Adelaide is a fitness concern with the same also being true for Moussa Dembele.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in March, PSG beat Lyon 4-2.
- PSG have won five and drawn one of their last six games.
- Lyon have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- PSG have scored 17 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Lyon have scored 10 goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
Conclusion
Lyon are going to provide resistance to PSG and that’s really what they need. We have to see a club of this stature being pushed to the limit and the visitors tend to do that more often than not when they collide with the French giants. In terms of the final result we still don’t think that’s going to be in a whole lot of doubt, which is why we’re backing PSG to overcome some early adversity and register a solid 2-1 win.
