In the midst of all the chaos that’s been happening across the beautiful game, it could’ve been easy to forget that the UEFA Champions League semi-finals are set to take place over the next few weeks with the first legs going down in the next couple of days. The game we’re going to take a look at today will pit two of the richest clubs in world football against one another as both finally hope to cap off a golden era with a European Cup to their name. We are, of course, referring to Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester City.
PSG
Paris Saint-Germain are currently involved in one of the toughest Ligue 1 title races they’ve had in years, and while many feel as if they’ve still got what it takes to win the whole thing, there’s an element of doubt creeping in. Still, we’d argue the tension of that situation has actually helped them to relax a bit more in Europe, which is always a positive. From great players to a world class manager, there are plenty of reasons to fear them.
Team News
Bernat has been officially ruled out of this one through injury whereas the following players will face fitness tests prior to the game: Diallo, Marquinhos and Rafinha.
Manchester City
They’ve won the League Cup, fell short in the FA Cup and are just a few wins away from wrapping up another Premier League title. With that in mind, we’d say City fans could be forgiven for focusing their attention on what comes next in the UEFA Champions League. Pep Guardiola knows they’re just a few wins away from making history and although it’s going to be tough to get over the finish line, this squad has the sort of resolve and determination we all strive for.
Team News
Pep will actually have a fully fit squad to choose from for the trip to France with De Bruyne and Aguero both making their way back to full fitness.
Factors to Consider
- PSG beat Bayern Munich in the last round whereas Man City beat Borussia Dortmund.
- PSG have won five and lost one of their last six games.
- Man City have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- PSG have scored 18 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- Man City have scored eight goals and conceded six in their last six games.
Conclusion
The problem for the visitors here is that they seem to be showing more fatigue out of the two teams, probably as a result of competing across four different competitions in the last few weeks. There’s a real pressure on them to finally win the big one in the Champions League but with PSG, they know they have what it takes to go all the way, and it’s just a case of executing the game plan. We think the kings of French football will win this, and we actually think it’ll be quite comfortable at 2-0.
