Domestic football is back after the international break and now, the same can be said for the UEFA Champions League. This week we’ve got a whole host of exciting fixtures to sink our teeth into as we prepare to reach the half-way point of this season’s group stage. Group A was viewed as one of the most competitive of the eight after the draw and that’s proving to be quite an accurate statement with Paris Saint-Germain gearing up for a big clash with RB Leipzig.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain have a “super team” in every sense of the term, and the success or failure of that squad is likely going to be defined by their run in the Champions League over the next few months. They’ve been somewhat fortunate to come away with four points from their first two games in the group stage but if the likes of Messi and Mbappe are at the races, they can beat just about anyone.

Team News

Di Maria is suspended, Neymar has been ruled out and the following players are all listed as doubtful: Marquinhos, Messi, Paredes, Ramos and Navas.

RB Leipzig

The one word that can be used to described RB Leipzig this season above all others is “inconsistent”. They’ve got some really fun options at their disposal but there just isn’t the kind of team cohesion required to forge a genuine title push. At this rate they’ll even lose out on qualifying for the UCL through the Bundesliga which, perhaps, helps to prove the theory that their long-term future isn’t as stable as we were first led to believe.

Team News

Angelino is back following his recent suspension with Olmo and Halstenberg both being on the shelf through injury.

Factors to Consider

  • PSG are 1st in Group A whereas Leipzig are 4th.
  • PSG have won five and lost one of their last six games.
  • Leipzig have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
  • PSG have scored 10 goals and conceded five in their last six games.
  • Leipzig have scored 15 goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.

Conclusion

The problem Leipzig are going to have stems from their probable inability to actually keep PSG out of their final third. They’ve been leaking goals all serious long with PSG, on the opposite end of the spectrum, being really fun to watch whenever things click within their elite attacking options. It’s going to be an open, back and forth encounter which should play into the French giants’ hands and lead to them picking up a 2-1 victory.

Prediction: PSG win
