The UEFA Europa League is back this week as we get ready for the second leg fixtures across the competition. There are just 16 clubs remaining in the fight to make it into the quarter-finals, and many of them still have a viable route to the final. Today, we’ll be looking at a tie that many believe is already pretty much settled, as Real Betis go head to head with Manchester United in Spain.

Real Betis

The race to make it into the top four has been the priority for Real Betis this season, but alongside that, they’ve also done well to maintain their place in European competition. It’s unfortunate, then, that they’ve drawn such a tough opponent, and that they crumbled in the first leg. Their passionate fans will still believe they can turn things around, but it’s going to take an almighty effort.

Team News

Montoya is unavailable due to being unregistered for the UEL squad, with the only injury absentee being Fekir.

Manchester United

After winning the League Cup last month, Manchester United will now turn their attention towards earning even more silverware. The Europa League has been kind to them in years gone by and although their end goal is to return to the Champions League once again, that doesn’t mean this isn’t a valuable trophy. Erik ten Hag will know its importance, and he’ll know they are one of the favourites.

Team News

Lindelof joins Martial and Sabitzer in being questionable here due to an illness, whereas van de Beek, Garnacho and Eriksen are all injured.

Factors to Consider

  • In the first leg last week, United beat Betis 4-1.
  • Betis have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
  • United have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
  • Betis have scored 10 goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.
  • United have scored 11 goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.

Conclusion

This is a really tough game to call because while we do think Manchester United go through, the circumstances under which they do so are hard to figure out. We expect Real Betis to really come out firing, pressing the visitors back as they were able to do during brief glimpses in the first leg. Alas, while they may take the lead once or twice, United will dig deep and secure a high-scoring win on the night.

Prediction: Man United win
