Real Madrid and Getafe will lock horns with each other in La Liga this coming weekend. The match between Carlo Ancelotti’s side and José Bordalás’s team will be held at the Santiago Bernabeu and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Saturday.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid won the La Liga title last season and were expected to successfully defend it this campaign as well, but things have not worked out for Los Blancos. In recent weeks, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have dropped too many points and have lost too many games to effectively allow Barcelona to march to the title. And now there is a chance that they will not even finish second in the standings.

Madrid are third in the La Liga table at the moment with 68 points from 33 matches. Los Blancos are a point behind second-placed and city rivals Atletico Madrid and are as many as 14 points behind leaders and bitter rivals Barcelona. Real Sociedad in fourth are seven points behind Madrid.

Ancelotti’s side will take on defending Premier League champions Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final tie on Tuesday evening before facing Getafe in La Liga this coming weekend. Madrid got the better of Osasuna 2-1 in the final of the Copa del Rey this past weekend.

Team News:

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti could make a few changes to the team against Getafe and may not play his best starting lineup due to the UEFA Champions League games against Manchester City this week and the next. Although Thibaut Courtois should start in goal, elsewhere on the pitch, there should be starts for Marco Asensio, Eduardo Camavinga, Daniel Ceballos and Nacho.

Getafe

Getafe are a modest club in Spain whose main aim is to survive in La Liga. Although things have gone well for them in recent seasons, there is now a very good chance that they could finish themselves in the Segunda Division for the next campaign. José Bordalás’s side have been poor all season, and things are looking very bad for them at the moment.

The Azulones are third from bottom in the La Liga table at the moment with 34 points from 33 matches. Getafe are three points above second-from-bottom Espanyol and level on points with former La Liga champions Valencia, who are currently 17th in the standings. Real Valladolid in 16th are on 35 points, while Cadiz in 15h have also picked up 35 points. Almeria are 14th with 36 points, three points behind 13th-placed Celta de Vigo.

Getafe will head into the La Liga match against defending champions Real Madrid away from home at the Santiago Bernabeu on the back of a 1-0 victory over Celta de Vigo at home in the league. It came after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Espanyol on the road in La Liga and followed a 2-1 loss to Almeria in front of their own fans in the league.

Team News:

Getafe are likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation against Real Madrid. David Soria will be in goal for the visiting team. Mitrovic and Dakoram will be the two centre-backs. Arambarri will start in midfield, while Jaime Mata, Unai and Carles Alena will be the three forwards.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Real Madrid have lost 7 out of 33 La Liga matches this season.
  • Real Madrid have won 3 of their last 5 La Liga matches.
  • Getafe have lost 15 out of 33 La Liga games this season.
  • Getafe have scored 30 goals in 33 La Liga games this campaign.
  • Karim Benzema has scored 17 goals and given 3 assists in 21 La Liga games this season.

Conclusion

Real Madrid are now pretty much certain of not winning the La Liga title for the second season in a row. Bitter rivals Barcelona are on the verge of claiming the championship. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are now fully focused on the UEFA Champions League, but they will still have more than enough to get the better of a Getafe side who are in real danger of getting relegated to the Segunda Division at the end of the season.

Prediction: Real Madrid to win 3-0

Best Odds: 9/1
